Optical Engineering Manager Responsibilities:

• Build, lead and mentor a world-class optical engineering team to develop new optical modules and systems for future AR/VR displays.
• Lead the team through the entire product cycle end-to-end, from innovation through prototyping and scalable hardware development.
• Foster and develop a culture of hardware engineering excellence, by guiding the team towards being innovative, building predictive optical models, defining hardware specifications, designing for manufacturability while also pushing the industry boundaries, and following rigorous data-driven engineering validation steps, among other practices.
• Lead the team to perform roadmapping activities for emerging optical technologies and module design concepts relevant for AR/VR display applications.
• Develop strong relationships with internal cross-functional partners and external vendors, and support module builds and system integration activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience with one or more of the following optics domains: imaging optics, illumination optics, polarization optics, radiometry and photometry, and/or display technologies.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Optics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 7 years of experience in developing critical optical components, modules or systems in highly multidisciplinary environments, including optical design, design for manufacturability, setting specifications, determining test methods, and overall module and system execution.
• 3 years of management experience, leading a hardware development team in consumer electronics or similar field.
• Experience in full life cycle product launches, and working closely with external suppliers to design, develop and deliver mass produced products.
• Experience and high-level familiarity with using ray tracing software such as Zemax, CodeV or Light-tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MS or PhD degree in the field of Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, related degree, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with defining, developing and/or using optical metrology equipment for optical characterization and testing.
• Experience with defining and implementing quality control procedures and test plans across supply chain (IQC, OQC and IPQC).
• Experience with process development and conducting failure analysis for optical components and modules such as cameras, sensors, or illumination/projector systems.
• Experience using scripting languages and data analysis tools such Matlab, Python or JMP.
