Job Synopsis

The Program and Communications Coordinator for U.S. National Peace & Justice Ministries (NPJM) provides program, communications and administrative support for all areas of NPJM’s work. This includes coordinating logistics and publicity for training events, conferences and meetings; assisting in the production of resources; leading external communications efforts for NPJM, including newsletters and social media; and other administrative duties to support NPJM's work.

Essential:
  • Associates Degree.
  • At least one year of relevant experience, particularly in communications.
  • Competency in MS Office, including word processing, spreadsheets, editing and proofreading.
  • Competency with information technology, including social media, and e-newsletters.
  • Ability to think strategically about communications projects.
  • Ability to coordinate with staff in remote locations.
  • Commitment to anti-racist and anti-sexist principles.
  • Ability to take initiative and responsibility and to follow through on tasks with little supervision.
  • Personable manner, in person and on the telephone; good relational skills; bridge builder.
  • Flexibility/willingness to be interrupted and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to be pleasant in the face of a demanding schedule and constantly changing circumstances.
  • Strong organizational and writing skills.
Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the US MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of event platforms, PayPal and basic accounting tools
  • Fluent in Spanish
Key Responsibilties
Program support for NPJM education and advocacy goals - 60%
Communications - 20%
Administrative tasks - 15%
Building management - 5%
Specific Tasks and Duties
Program support (60%)
  • Oversee and handle logistics for trainings, conferences, visits by MCC staff/constituents and other events sponsored by NPJM, including meeting logistics, travel (typically with Golden Rule), registration, setting up meetings with congressional or administration offices, budget, reimbursements, and follow up; this could include time outside of normal work hours at the time of the event.
  • Travel to training locations approximately 4 times per year.
  • Assist with the production of publications, particularly with proofreading;.
  • Assist with the design and dissemination of training materials (e.g., design brochures, handouts, power point presentations and publicity for training and workshops).
  • Coordinate the C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest; this includes communicating with universities, submitting requests for funds, receiving submissions, communicating with judges, writing a press release.
  • Coordinate the annual High School Essay Contest; this includes sending emails to schools, posting information on the web site, answering inquiries and receiving completed essays.
Communications (20%)
  • Give shape to the NPJM communications strategy.
  • Work closely with NPJM team members to meet communications goals (and track progress toward these goals), which includes writing/editing and sending out mass emails to constituents, writing news releases, and coordinating with MCC U.S. and regional communications staff for the promotion of NPJM events and resources.
  • Post NPJM materials on the MCC web site.
  • Create action alerts and email blasts with the Voter Voice platform
  • Provide overall management of constituent lists and other data in Voter Voice
  • Coordinate efforts to track grassroots advocacy and engagement, including by producing quarterly Communications reports and presenting findings at NPJM staff meetings.
  • Assist with posting and organizing NPJM staff materials on Teams and The Hub.
  • Encourage and coordinate social media usage (e.g. Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram) with MCC U.S. social media coordinator; promote events and resources on social media; coordinate regular news/resource posts on NPJM Twitter.
Administrative tasks (15%)
  • Coordinate with MCC support departments (Communications and Donor Relations, IT, and Administrative Services) for needed services and resources.
  • Facilitate preparation for and follow-up of staff meetings. Take minutes at staff meetings and assigned program network meetings.
  • Approve routine financial expenditures.
  • Assist with the compilation of program plans, progress reports, board reports and budget spreadsheets.
  • Provide support for travel arrangements when team (or significant portion of team) is traveling together. Coordinate with Welcoming Place for staff travel and pick-ups.
  • Work with affected staff and Administrative Services on the acquisition and maintenance of office equipment and furniture, coordination of office moves and other situations which may arise.
  • Coordinate emails and monthly meetings for the Capital Area Anabaptist Network.
  • Manage the NPJM general email account. Provide overall management of the NPJM calendars (Outlook and Access).
Building management (5%)
  • Ensure office building is maintained.
  • File reports as needed with the D.C. government.
  • Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.
Supervision: There are no supervisory requirements for this position; could occasionally coordinate a portion of the work of an intern or IVEP participant if that work includes communications tasks.
Physical Activity/Demands: Occasionally remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasionally moving about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another.
  • Choose an item. light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Travel expectations: Up to 25% with less than 30 nights away per year.

Salary Details

Base salary: $53,354.05. Starting salary may be adjusted up to $59282.28 annually based on previous experience.
