Development Gateway Job Description: Program Coordinator (Washington, DC)

The Organization You Want to Work For

Development Gateway (DG) is an international nonprofit organization that creates innovative information management and data visualization technology, implements data-focused programs, and conducts research and evaluation to further sustainable development: developmentgateway.org

Our core focus areas are Resource Management (open contracting and procurement, aid management, and extractives); Effective Service Delivery (agriculture, health, data management systems, monitoring/evaluation/learning); and Data Strategy & Policy (including results data, data standards, and open data advocacy).

We are a creative and dynamic group of people based around the globe. We value hard work, innovative thinking, a commitment to teamwork, humility, and a good sense of humor.

Job Description

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for supporting several key DG programs in DG’s priority areas - including two multi-year Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded programs in the health and/or agriculture sectors in Africa. Programs are primarily multi-year, multinational grants, funded by foundations or multilateral institutions, focused on making data more accessible and useful.

In this transversal, entry-level role, you will support program managers in preparing communications materials; tracking data for monitoring and evaluation frameworks; scheduling, coordinating, and taking notes during regular check in meetings; event coordination and support; and coordinating budget tracking and subcontractor budget tracking. A wide degree of latitude and responsibility is expected. Curious, creative, and detail-oriented problem-solvers are encouraged to apply.

The Work You Get To Do

  • Lead administrative tasks to support high-visibility multi-country programs, while gaining experience on large-scale project management in international development
  • Update program budgets and monitor sub-contract financial execution. Assist with financial projections, tracking burn rates, and processing partner(s) invoices.
  • Collect, collate and analyze monitoring and evaluation data. Assist with other forms of impact measurement (surveys, use-cases, etc.)
  • Support the creation of and contribution to communication materials, including monthly funder reports, slide decks, website content, and DG's internal newsletter.
  • Coordinate closely with the Communications team in the planning of external communication materials, including writing blogs, press releases, as well as the creation of videos and social media posts.
  • Support the program's learning by facilitating retrospective meetings and quarterly reviews in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Conduct desk research as needed.
  • Support event planning and logistics, including remote and online events.
  • Provide administrative support such as taking notes , scheduling meetings, and assisting with travel/logistical arrangements.
  • As appropriate, lead an independent initiative in coordination with your supervisor to showcase to the DG programs team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Must Have Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidates from all academic majors are encouraged to apply.
  • 1 year of work experience; work experience may include internships, part-time jobs or a combination of both.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to handle a broad and unpredictable workload, meet deadlines and work under your own initiative.
  • Critical thinker; curious; problem solver — with examples to prove it.
  • Strong writing skills, able to write and communicate clearly.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate via writing, Slack/email, video conference, and phone, especially as part of a global team (most of DG team members work outside the U.S.)
  • Excellent computer skills; proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Fluency in English. Other languages such as French or Spanish are a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and eagerness to learn

Nice-to-have extras, but not required — please apply even without them:

  • Experience tracking budget progress and expenditures; experience in administration of sub-contracts.
  • Experience in effectively communicating with clients/donors.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation concepts.
  • Experience using Google Workspace/G Suite (Docs, Sheets) or similar collaborative software.
  • Experience working with a remote/distributed team.
  • Experience with managing event planning and logistics, including online events.

Compensation

This is a full time position. Since most team members are located outside of the US, you should expect to start most of your work days by 8am EST. The projected salary for this position is between $50,000 and $55,000 annually, plus a comprehensive and generous benefits package.

Location

This position is based in the Washington, DC area. We have a hybrid work environment split between working remotely and working from our downtown office in the dynamic and just-renovated Open Gov Hub. This position requires working from the Hub two days per week between Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Please note that only those authorized to work in the United States may apply.

Equal Opportunity
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity and lived experience. We strongly encourage applications from people whose identities have historically been excluded in the sectors where DG works. DG does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
