Overview

McGuireWoods is seeking to hire an HR Relationship Manager to join the firm-wide Human Resources team in either our Chicago, IL or Richmond, VA office. This role will provide support and serve as a key advisor in functional areas of Human Resources, including but not limited to recruitment and employment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training, etc. This role will manage HR programs and resources and will also assist in the development/implementation of HR policies and procedures and their dissemination through the McGuireWoods portal, employee booklets, communications and/or meetings throughout the Firm.

Responsibilities

  • Travels to firm locations to build effective relationships and ensure two-way communications with employees and management.
  • Handles and resolves department and employee issues and conflicts as they arise.
  • Counsels managers and staff through the disciplinary process to determine the appropriate course of action. Facilitates the development of improvement plans and warnings and handles employee terminations. Maintains records and compiles statistical reports concerning hires, terminations, promotions, performance appraisals, absenteeism, etc.
  • Investigates complaints and grievances related to harassment and allegations of discrimination.
  • Develops and oversees programs to establish and maintain effective human resource management through the uniform and equitable application of policies and procedures.
  • Advises management and ensures compliance in the interpretation/application of policies and procedures and all other local, federal and state legislation such as EEO, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, sexual harassment, etc.
  • Works with other members of HR management throughout all stages of a merger/acquisition to pave the way for a smooth integration process.
  • Coordinates with other HR functions, such as D&I, to ensure the broader people goals, programs, and practices are aligned with an provided consultative advice.

Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Psychology or other related field and at least seven to ten years of progressive human resource management experience, specifically in general HR and employee relations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with all levels within the Firm.
  • Knowledge of the principles of human resources administration and general human resources concepts to include recruitment and selection, classification and compensation, benefits administration, training, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources.
  • PC skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, viDesktop).
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and quickly diffuse a critical situation.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written communication skills and coaching/counseling skills.
  • Detail-oriented, articulate and well organized with thorough follow up skills.
  • Ability to travel to other office locations as needed.
