McDowell Cornerstone Credit Union is Hiring an Accounting Administrative Assistant Near Marion, NC

SUMMARY:

The Accounting Administrative Assistant is responsible for general office tasks including accounting, reporting, and other clerical duties. Provides administrative support to team members and positively contributes to the credit union culture and Member experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This role will require very strong attention to detail, the candidate must be meticulous with all aspects of their responsibilities.
  • Perform a variety of activities to assist the Accounting Manager in maintaining the financial, statistical, and accounting records of the Credit Union.
  • QA new membership and loan documents to prepare for Board of Directors review.
  • Monitor insurance policies on loans to ensure they’re still in force. Force place insurance if necessary.
  • File both digital and paper documents.
  • Enter data into accounting systems and generate reports daily. Prepare various financial, regulatory, and special reports on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis as requested by management.
  • Verify and balance teller sheets daily.
  • Journalize all necessary transactions and ensure everything is in balance.
  • Review and enter employee expenses into the general ledger.
  • Post general ledger entries, and proof totals with the general ledger system. File and store general ledger journals daily.
  • Prepare accounts payable checks after receiving proper authorization.
  • Prepare agendas, reports, presentations, and other materials to prepare for board meetings and other business activities.
  • Coordinate Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions throughout the day.
  • Reviews internal checking and corporate accounts on a daily and monthly basis.
  • Prints all accounts payable reports and maintains all accounts payable files.
  • Assist with end of month process.
  • Assist with accounts receivable and special projects, as necessary.
  • Responsible for back-office payment processing such as bankruptcy and charge off payments.
  • Assist with collections efforts.
  • Assist with deceased accounts and escheatment process as required.
  • Assist with ACH and Share Draft returns on a daily basis.
  • Verify that vault and general ledgers are balanced on a daily basis.
  • Assist with the resolution of errors occurring in the data processing system.
  • Complete GL entries when tellers are out of balance.
  • Balance money order account and makes daily entries for that.
  • Administrative support for other team members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Accounting accuracy
  • Responsible for making daily decisions that affect Member’s accounts, internal accounts, and corporate accounts.
  • Is accountable for identifying problems and assisting staff with corrections and transactions for accounts payable, wires, payroll deductions, ACH, debit card, and share draft transactions, compliance, and record retention.
  • Responsible for accuracy in the following areas: accounts payable, wires, payroll deductions, ACH, debit card, and share draft transactions, compliance, and record retention.
  • Inform management of errors impacting Member accounts and errors found while performing accounting duties to ensure excellent Member service across the organization.
  • Expand overall knowledge of credit union operations and philosophies.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED. Banking experience required, bookkeeping experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical information, financial reports, and legal documents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic math.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Internet Software; Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook); and Presentation software (PowerPoint). A basic understanding of financial core processing software is desired.

OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
