POSITION SUMMARY

This is a blended position that assists pharmacistswith inventory and inspections, including maintaining records of such.

Receives and processes medications orders,restocks and maintains inventory in the Pickpoint machines and the OTC floorstock.

Maintains pharmacy spaces in orderly manner and manages patient pick upof their medications.They also performadministrative services for the daily operations including data entry, filing,scheduling and arranging travel.

Communicates,assists, and refers as necessary to ensure quality health care to patients isbeing provided. Assists with administrative requests from MHC, City Officesand / or IRAs, and maintains office supplies.

As initial contact, uses positiveattitude to represent the Village Clinic. Complies with state and regulatoryagency requirements.

Maintains strictconfidentiality in regards to patient information received. Reports directly toClinic Supervisor.

PRINCIPALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Underthe daily direction of the Clinic Supervisor and under the clinical directionof a licensed Pharmacist :

MedicationTechnician :

1.On a regularly scheduled basisinspects all locations where drugs are stored.Check all items for current dating and replenishes drugs and supplies topar levels.

Maintain records of allinspections.

2.Routinely communicates with villagehealth aides for clarification or problems with orders.

3.Performs a variety of drug packagingand labeling dates.

4.Communicates with physicians,nurses, CHA / Ps and other personnel regarding drug availability and dosageforms.

5.Performs regular inventories andprepares drug and supply orders.Receives, unpacks, and properly stores drug supplies.Rotates inventory to insure current dating.

Removes outdated drugs and packages them for return.

6.Maintains pharmacy and drug storageareas in a clean and orderly manner.Cleans utensils, glassware, counters and sinks as needed.

Maintains storage shelves in an orderly manner.

7.Calculates and prepares additivedrugs, materials and labels required for admixtures.

8.As experience is obtained, must beable to identify correct auxiliary labels for each medication.

9.Manage over the counter medicationand order monthly. Document in the Daily medical log as over the counter medicationsare dispensed.

10.Manage Chronic Medication List andkeep up to date. Document in the Daily medical log every time medication isordered or dispensed.

11.Assists Pharmacists and / or providerswith pill counts.

12.Maintain narcotic pick up log anddispense medicine when they are due.

13.Manage pick point machine.

14.Send medication refill requests toappropriate staff.

15.Utilizes and maintains SQSS for dataentry regarding medications and refrigerator temperatures.

AdministrativeAssistant :

1.Practices excellent customer serviceat the front desk greeting patients, answering phone calls, taking messages,and delivering messages to CHA / Ps.

2.Files all correspondence, reports,forms, and patient charts in accurate location and in an orderly fashion withinestablished timeframes.

3.Enters data from the patientregistration form to maintain current patient information, and ensuring allconsent forms are signed and in place prior to visit.

4.Enters appointments into CHA / Psschedules in villages and notifies patients for appointments.

5.Pulls all charts as requested byCHA / Ps or appropriate personnel.

6.Maintains clinic records andestablishes / updates filing systems to ensure the expeditious retrieval ofinformation.

7.Notifies and arranges patient travelfor Specialty Clinic, Outpatient, Women’s Health and Dental appointments.

8.Assists clients with correspondenceand enrollment applications for Women, Infant & Children and Medicaidservices.

9.Arranges Medicaid travel forpatients / clients seeking health care services outside their community accordingto Maniilaq travel policies and procedures.

Contacts VCC prior toauthorizations in Anchorage for patients that are Medicaid eligible.

10.Verifies eligibility throughappropriate channels.

11.Completes travel authorizationsensuring that airlines receive the appropriate copy.

12.At times, works beyond normalbusiness hours to arrange travel for emergent patients needing higher levels ofcare.

13.Announces and posts health clinicjob vacancies every week through posting in public places, VHF announcements, socialmedia, and word of mouth.

14.Maintains on-call calendar and keepstrack of staffing, visiting providers, and other health services provided atthe clinic.

15.Performs other job-related duties asassigned by Clinic Supervisor.

Job Qualifications : MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MedicationTechnician I / Administrative Assistant I :

High school diploma or equivalent.College level course work in chemistry tomedical related disciplines preferred.Must begin the process of obtaining a pharmacy technician license fromthe State of Alaska within 3 months of hire date.

Must be able to successfully pass the Stateof Alaska background check for licensing requirement. Ability to make accuratemeasurements and conversions from the English Metric measurement systems.

Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals.Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs., standfor prolong periods of time.

Needs to befamiliar and proficient with the use of computers.Must be able to type well enough to carry outessential job duties.

Experience in creating and maintain filing systems.Ability to deal with people in a friendly and respectful manner both in personand on the telephone.

Medical terminology or other health-related backgrounddesirable.

MedicationTechnician II / Administrative Assistant II :

Qualifications of a MedicationTechnician / Administrative Assistant I.Experience in a clinical setting and familiar with medical terminologyis required.

Willingness to attend jobrelated training and education programs.Must be willing to be on call in times of declared disasters.

Familiar with requirements and documentationin patient files.Must be familiar withElectronic Health Records.Must have 6months previous experience as a Medication Technician I.

Must be familiar withthe current drug wholesale order system or equivalent. One year of clericalwork experience that includes use of Electronic Health Records, issuing travelrequisitions, creating and maintaining filing systems and performing data entry.
