Los Angeles Community College District is Hiring a Dean of Student Services Near Los Angeles, CA

Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services, the Dean of Student Services plans, organizes and directs assigned Student Services operations, activities, departments, and programs; coordinates and directs communications, information, resources, and personnel to meet the student services needs of the College and enhance the effectiveness of assigned departments, programs and functions; and supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned faculty and classified personnel. The anticipated start date is April 2023.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum requirements as an administrator with:

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff and students and commitment to improving student success through an equity lens.


Eligibility

A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant’s expense prior to employment.


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works cooperatively with department managers with respect to program review and planning; enrollment processing; personnel recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and contract compliance.
  • Provides oversight for the following areas: Admissions & Records, Associated Students Organization (ASO), Basic Needs Center, Career Center, College Culture Reentry Hub, LA College Promise, and Transfer Center.
  • Works with the campus community in implementing Guided Pathways.
  • Works with the campus community to identify strategies that maximize the vision of the Student-Centered Funding Formula.
  • Develops specific strategies that support programs including dual enrollment and adult education.
  • Interprets, articulates, implements and monitors compliance with the Education Code, Board Rules, District Administrative Regulations, Personnel Guides, and collective bargaining agreements in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Represents Student Services on a variety of committees and subcommittees under the college’s shared governance structure.
  • Serves as a resource to the Vice President of Student Services on issues pertaining to the Dean’s areas of responsibility.
  • Articulates and champions the division and college’s shared mission, vision, and values to students, faculty, staff, industry partners, associations, and other external stakeholders.
  • Seeks out and identifies opportunities to develop and offer new/revitalized programs, services, and activities having the potential to generate internal and external resources for assigned programs.
  • Serves as the evening (weekend) administrator, as required.
  • Serves at multiple campus sites as needed
  • Supervises the personnel functions for the student services areas in his/her charge:
Responsible for:
a) Supervising and monitoring the selection process for all certificated personnel;
b) Monitoring and enforcing the evaluation processes for faculty and classified staff;
c) Monitoring compliance with the contract and ensuring that the Student Services Office comply with all elements of the contract.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.


Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and administrators.
  • Knowledge of the management information needs of effective student services programs and uses of various computer resources to meet those needs.
  • General knowledge of budget development, implementation, and management.
  • Personal characteristics necessary for working with students, employees, and the public in an administrative capacity, including wholesome personality, stability, good judgment, tact, team spirit, and ability to cooperate with co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and demonstrated ability to produce comprehensive reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful grant writing along with grant management/coordination that has led to successful achievement of deliverables.


Salary and Benefits

The current salary range is $151,286 - $177,635 annually. The selected candidate will be placed on the salary schedule for that class based on a number of factors including but not limited to: education, scope and breadth of experience and responsibilities, skills, competencies and accomplishments in accordance with LACCD Board Rule 10509. An additional, doctoral stipend of $4,926 per academic year is available for applicants possessing a doctorate degree from an accredited institution. Benefits include medical, dental, vision for employees and eligible dependents, term life insurance, and State Teachers Retirement System program.

  • Copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts; if invited to interview, candidate should be prepared to provide official transcripts: Note: All degrees must be granted by an accredited college or university in the United States. Transcripts from a foreign institution must be submitted with an approved evaluation of equivalency from a foreign evaluation service approved by California Commission on Teaching Credentialing.
  • Three professional references including the name, position, title, contact information and relationship to the applicant.
  • A one-page response to the following question:

“As a campus administrator in the Student Services division, how will you contribute to student engagement and equity?”
