LMPS Holdings, LLC is Hiring a Director of College Counseling Near New York, NY

Instruction and Leadership 
  • Coordinates the work of College Counselors and any associated administrative staff in the daily operations of the College Counseling Office and set the direction, goals, metrics, and accountability for College Counselors and staff in collaboration with the Head of High School;
  • Serves as a point person for interdepartmental communications regarding the college counseling process;
  • Oversees the implementation of all aspects of the college counseling and application process in the upper school advisory program in collaboration with the Head of High School and Head of Middle School;
  • Oversees the execution of all standardized tests administered in house (e.g. PSATs) and the development and long-term implementation of a Test Prep Program (comprehensive of PSATs, and SAT’s), to include data analysis, communication with students and families, collaborating with appropriate members of Léman Manhattan faculty and staff, and overseeing the provision of test prep courses on campus by outside organizations;
  • Tracks and increases the number of top-tier college applications and the number of ED applications as relates to the overall goals of the College Counseling Office and the vision of the school;
  • Oversees the completion, implementation, translation (e.g. Mandarin, Spanish, French, etc.), and continual updating of a Guide to College Counseling at Léman Manhattan;
  • Supervises the implementation of targeted and specialized college counseling services for international families and expand the options for Léman Manhattan students in universities abroad;
  • Develops systems and maintain a database for connections to colleges and universities, including connections provided by parents and Léman Manhattan alumni;
  • Provides students and parents with advice appropriate for each grade level, individually helping them explore interests and identify college or university communities that match the students’ talents and aspirations;
  • Manages a student caseload which includes advising on course selections, college 
  • planning meetings, developing college lists, etc.;
  • Keeps up to date and shares knowledge of the selective college admissions process, financial aid / scholarships, and other special requirements for other types of colleges - domestic and international with colleagues, families and students;
  • Implement creative college counseling programs (such as guest speakers, career guidance, etc.) to build understanding and enhance college counseling experience;
  • Crafts thoughtful and strong letters of recommendation that capture the talents, personality, and promise of each student;
  • Effectively utilizes technology such as Naviance to maximize counseling efficiency;
  • Oversees the scheduling of 100 college visits to our campus each fall, plan and coordinate varied college visit trips, including HBCU college tours;
  • Grows a creative internship program for students;
  • Works closely with the Head of High School and Director of IB Programming to devise student schedules;
  • In collaboration with the student services teams, is active in the development; coordination, and delivery of effective educational programs for students, faculty, staff, and families relating to issues of adolescent development, and emotional and behavioral health; 
  • Increases counselor visibility, familiarity, and trust with students; gets to know the students and their families; becomes a presence in the school community;
  • Works in tandem with the school Registrar to oversee the accuracy of transcripts and credit accumulation;
  • Supports admissions events to showcase the college counseling department and present information during community events;
  • Assists with administrative coverage to include welcome/dismissal duty, lunch duty, and fire drill duty; and
  • Supervises and evaluates the college counseling team.
Experience & Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • At least 8-10 years of experience directly in college admissions counseling (preferably in an independent school setting or college setting);
  • A Master’s degree required preferably in a related field;
  • Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate program;
  • Cultural competency and experience working with families with different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds to fully support our diverse, international school community;
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and collaborative skills; and
  • A goal-oriented mindset.
