Position Summary:
Serves as a member of the CAPS leadership team, assisting the CAPS Director providing leadership and managerial oversight of the clinical functions of CAPS, and the development and implementation of policies and initiatives.
Provides supervision to designated Counseling Center staff, and assumes responsibility for the clinical operations of the Counseling Center in the Director's absence.
Represents Counseling Center in both campus and community-wide meetings, programs, and events. Provides mental health direct care, crisis intervention, crisis and clinical consultation and coordination, supervision, training, and outreach services at the Counseling Center.
Position Responsibilities:
Manages Clinical Services:
  • Serves as a member of the Counseling Center leadership team, assisting the Counseling Center Director by providing leadership and managerial oversight of the administrative, clinical, and consultative functions of the Counseling Center and the planning development, and implementation of policies and initiatives.
  • Provides supervision to designated Counseling Center staff, and assumes responsibility for the clinical operations of Counseling Center in the Director's absence. Represents the Director in both campus and community-wide meetings, programs, and events.
  • Coordinates all Counseling Center clinical activity, including the management of the case disposition team, crises, and crisis coverage schedules.
  • Attends the weekly Counseling Center Case Conference meeting.
  • Supervises and conducts performance evaluations for 3-5 clinicians.
  • Supervises interns, trainees, and/or unlicensed staff when needed.
  • Stays up-to-date with national policy-related trends regarding the management and provision of clinical services.
  • Networks with relevant off-campus hospitals, BSMART staff, community service boards, and other mental health resources, in collaboration with the CAPS case manager.
  • Attends staff meetings; cooperates with accountability and data collection systems; participates in university-wide, division of Student Life, Academic Advising, and Student Success and other relevant departments and develops and maintains a network of effective working relationships with faculty and staff from other offices and departments.
  • Maintains Counseling Center metrics on utilization of services, running reports through current titanium; develops and uses a tracking system to monitor trends in direct clinical service.
  • Provides individual and group psychotherapy - up to 23 direct service hours per week as needed.
  • Provides crisis walk-in coverage; performs crisis intervention and crisis consultation for the campus, including rotating on-call duty during evenings and weekends.
  • Provides mental health assessment and evaluation services.
  • Makes reasonable adjustments to scheduled appointments to meet requests for services.
  • Adheres to appropriate ethical and professional standards.
Case Management:
  • Keeps accurate and timely records of appointments (e.g., intake notes, progress notes, termination summaries) using the online Titanium record-keeping software.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records.
  • Consults with other professionals as needed to coordinate treatment.
  • Consults with parents and on- and off-campus professionals with appropriate authorization.
  • Informs the Director as soon as possible of students who may be at serious risk.
Other Duties:
  • Provides consultation, education, and outreach services to faculty, staff, students, and parents on developmental, mental health, and harm-reduction/prevention issues.
  • Prepares and provides training seminars to University groups (e.g., residence life staff; academic advisors; first-year students).
  • Occasionally serves on search committees and other areas of University service.
  • Accepts delegated responsibilities for special projects or committee assignments as requested by the Director.
Experience & Education Background:
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or a closely related field required
  • Current license as a mental health professional in the State of New York preferred
  • Maintains licensure through continuing professional education
  • A minimum of 4-5 years of experience providing mental health services to young adults (18-25 years old) required

  • Ability to read and complete clinical notes and records using the computerized Titanium record-keeping system
  • Ability to learn and use the computerized Titanium scheduling system for scheduling appointments, meetings, and other activities
  • Some level of proficiency or previous experience using MS Office products, especially Word and Excel
Salary Range:
$95,000 - $100,000
