Laura Richards, DPM is Hiring a Podiatric Medical Assistant Near Houston, TX

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Assistant, you will provide essential support to healthcare professionals in a hospital setting. Your primary responsibilities will include patient care, medical administrative support, and performing basic medical procedures.

Direct Patient Care (included but not limited to):

  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
  • Check in patients; verifies all demographic and insurance information with patients at time of check-in and update patient accounts as needed.
  • Assist new patients in completing all necessary paperwork.
  • Communicate with staff regarding patient scheduling (i.e. late arrivals, canceled appointments, etc.).
  • Collect any co-pays, co-insurance, or patient balances.
  • Schedule patients return appointments.
  • Batch and balance all monies and transactions entered in the system daily.
  • Completes all daily activity reports at the end of the scheduled shift.
  • Participates in educational and developmental activities.
  • Maintain patient flow.
  • Greet and escort patients to the examining room; make them feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Prepare and assist patients for exams; check vital signs, document symptoms, complaints and medications, prepare for lab tests and procedures, etc.
  • Assist the physician with exams and procedures.
  • Assist patients with obtaining lab slips and/or referrals, scheduling procedures, prescriptions, etc. Take lab specimens to the drop box.
  • Recognize urgent or emergency situations and act appropriately.
  • Put charges and diagnoses on chart forms or obtain this from the physician.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Cooperate and interact with team members and co-workers.
  • Educate patients on health care concerns and problems, office and hospital procedures, testing, surgery, etc.
  • Request and flow medical records. Maintain patient charting, testing and flow sheets.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality. Follow HIPAA guidelines.
  • Practice infection control: dispose of contaminated needles, drugs and supplies properly; use good hand washing technique; disinfect patient areas after use and clean exam rooms after patients are seen.
  • Assist with wound care and dressing changes. Assist with drawing up injections. Assist with pre and post-op care.
  • Assist with taking x-rays and patient positioning.
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, equipment, and tools. Run and manage autoclave.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6 months experience as medical assistant; Podiatry Preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Skilled in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and visitors.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and phone skills.

Education/Certificate/License/Skills

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants.
  • Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (Preferred but not required).
  • CPR certification (Preferred but not required).
  • Spanish language proficiency is a PLUS!

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
