Kirkland's is Hiring a Manager, Accounts Payable Near Brentwood, TN

Overview

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for managing the Company’s accounts payable function in a professional and knowledgeable manner. This position directs and oversees the daily management of the accounts payable staff. The AP function includes the accurate keying or uploading of expense invoices, proper matching of merchandise invoices, processing of payments to vendors, accounting for purchasing and travel expense cards and participation in the monthly close process. This position ensures Company policies and procedures are being adhered to as they pertain to accounts payable.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and develops a team of accounts payable specialists that verify and process expense and merchandise invoices and issue payments.
  • Ensures that invoices or other financial obligations are processed and paid in a timely manner.
  • Reconciles AP subledger, RNI report, and other payable related general ledger accounts on a monthly basis to ensure that the subledger and general ledger stay in balance and that there are no aged items.
  • Oversees the Company’s purchasing and travel credit card programs to ensure expenses are properly approved, recorded, and paid.
  • Performs month-end closing journal entries related to AP accruals and various AP accounts.
  • Works directly with the buying team and direct sourcing team with regards to adjusting payment terms and allowances for each vendor to maximize Company cash flow and allowances on invoices.
  • Establishes process improvements to increase the efficiency of the accounts payable department.
  • Interprets, updates and enforces the invoice approval matrix and other AP policies and procedures.
  • Partners with Accounting to meet the monthly closing schedule deadlines.
  • May recruit, hire, train and evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.
  • Reviews and updates Sarbanes Oxley flowcharts and risk/control matrixes related to the accounts payable processes.
  • Assists with internal and external audit requests.
  • Champions and demonstrates a commitment to Kirkland’s Values.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5-7 or more years of high-volume AP experience with at least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Previous AP supervisory experience for a retailer preferred.
  • Any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position.
  • Experience with Oracle Retail Invoice Matching and/or the Infor general ledger system.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute strategically by identifying, developing, and implementing process improvements.
  • Proven ability to prepare Accounts Payable related balance sheet account reconciliations and monthly entries.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of account payable policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and time management skills.
  • High ethical and professional standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
