Katmai is Hiring a Public Health Analyst Near Atlanta, GA

Job Description:


SUMMARY:

Provide public health analysis support to the DHP Behavioral and Clinical Surveillance Branch (BCSB) HIV surveillance and surveillance-related programs in support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and disseminate senior level documents such as HIV testing policies, CDC and state-based procedures, recommendations for cooperative agreement and contract recipients regarding HIV rapid testing, and drafting peer-review journal articles as follows:
    • Write content (e.g., reports, fact sheets, Dear Colleague Letters, Word files of edited papers for journal submission, and web copy)
    • Proof reading (e.g., PDFs of reports, Word files of edited papers for journal submission, and website copy)
  • Edit references according to general publishing guidelines.
  • Copyediting (including correcting grammar, punctuation, capitalization, abbreviations, keying queries/suggestions, checking for consistency between text and tables or figures, correcting/noting discrepancies between the manuscript and the publisher’s instructions, and agreement with DHP style guide)
  • Perform substantive editing (assisting the author with the content, not simply the presentation of the content, suggest reorganization of information, identify the need for additional information, and suggest deletion of extraneous information).
  • Support CDC with the collection, compilation, and tracking of DHP and branch specific internal operations data in support of division program operations by:
    • Participate in up to 12 conferences calls each month with DHP staff and other contacts outside of the division.
    • Prepare written summaries of attended conference calls within 3 days, and participate in health equity related meetings/calls each month with DHP staff.
    • Collect and analyze data related to DHP Equity monitoring and evaluation plan.
    • Draft reports that will advance efforts to implement programs and processes that address equity within DHP.
    • Develop reports, presentations, or other types of documentation to track data collection progress and/or attainment of DHP Equity Plan milestones up to four (4) times per month.
  • Support CDC in planning, reviewing, and reporting of data and/or statistical results of program/project studies by performing basic analysis of the availability, interrelationship, accuracy, and consistency of the data.
  • Review and analyze research papers, articles such as Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) articles, or book chapters for editing and clarifications. Reviewed documents are returned by the contractor to their CDC authors for revisions and/or clarifications. The contractor shall expect up to 25 documents to review per month.
  • Collect, interpret, and process evaluation data up to four (4) times per month for various campaigns implemented by DHP to increase knowledge and awareness about HIV. The contractor shall attend meetings and participate in discussions with the DHP staff up to four (4) times per month to provide advice on campaign evaluation spending plan needs. Prepare written reports detailing spend plan projections, and update projections based on new activities.
  • Generate tool templates and other summary documentation to solicit feedback and data from CDC grantees on how best to organize data collection and reporting for activities related to HIV testing. The contractor shall expect up to four tool templates or summary documentation generated per month.
  • Solicit existing data from federal agencies that currently fund HIV testing. Develop data tables once a month for review, analysis, and incorporation into an annual report to summarize progress on national testing goals.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in public health administration or a degree in a similar field along with relevant professional experience is acceptable.
  • At least (3) years’ experience working at an advanced level in the most current versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills (attention to detail, ability to manage multiple iterations of documents).
  • Strong skills using plain language to explain complex topics.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral and written communications skills.
  • At least (3) years’ experience working with public health data collection systems.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
