Job Description

SUMMARY:

Provide communications support to the Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) Behavioral and Clinical Surveillance Branch (BCSB) HIV surveillance and surveillance-related programs in support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide promotional support to the Let’s Stop HIV Together campaign by:
    • Developing promotion planning documents to phase and track promotion of various campaign products and rollouts (up to 3 per year);
    • Writing promotional materials including e-blasts (up to 12 per year), social media posts (up to 24 per year), and presentations that can be used to promote the campaign to partners (up to 4 per year); and
    • Monitoring and evaluating promotional efforts (up to 2 reports per year).
  • Attend meetings to participate in discussions with the PCB web team to develop web-based strategies that enhance DHP communications with stakeholders. Prepare written content for website updates to include fact sheets, summaries, briefs, and page updates up to six (6) times per month. The contractor shall be expected to:
    • Analyze metrics from a variety of channels and create written reports on a weekly, monthly, and ad hoc basis.
    • Present recommendations and findings on web/social media metrics to multiple client levels in a concise analytic format.
    • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to teams responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of metric codes.
    • Provide service to the PCB team while working within the constraints and restrictions of the federal rules, regulations, and web templates.
    • Create monthly social media post templates.
    • Manage and update social media SOP for social media coordinators.
    • Review and edit posts on social media calendar.
    • Triage any issues with posting social media content.
    • Monitor the CDC HIV Twitter and Facebook accounts.
    • Participate with PCB and DHP teams on developing social media strategy.
    • Meet regularly with content creators to discuss social media strategy and communicate issues and best practices.
    • Review social media channel applications as a member of the CDC Social Media Council.
    • Facilitate data analysis with the PCB Research and Evaluation Team.
    • Deliver posts to the NCHHSTP Health Communication Science Office for their review. Task 2.7.15 Analyze web metrics daily and present findings to senior leadership, managers, and developers.
  • Participate and assist the DHP Office of Policy, Planning, Partnerships, & Communications (OPPPC) in conducting public health and healthcare-related policy and partner analyses.
  • Collaborate with staff in the Office of Policy, Planning, Partnerships, and Communications to draft and publish a weekly newsletter; design and update DHP intranet content; support the DHP leadership team in the development of staff-focused communications content; develop and maintain SME lists; and maintain shared Teams platform.
  • Collaborate with staff in the Office of Policy, Planning, Partnerships, and Communications to support Division leadership in preparing for speeches, partner meetings, blogs, webinars, national conferences, and other externally facing events.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of public health.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in health communication or journalism or degree in a similar field along with relevant professional experience is acceptable.
  • Background, both academic and practical, in the field of communication; both in overall communication arts, science, and theory, and in health communication and social marketing.
  • Understanding of principles, methods, practices, and techniques of visual communication that enable the contractor to execute advanced health communication materials.
  • Experience supporting communications projects.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
