Position Title : Human Resources Generalist

Work Setting: Hybrid - 3 days in office required. Fully On site during first 90 days.
Reports To: Director of Human Resources, Benefits & Payroll
Pay Rate: $27-$29/hour

Position Overview: JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Human Resources team as the Human Resources Generalist. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your Human Resources experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego.
The Human Resources Generalist plays an integral role in supporting the entire agency by partnering with the People & Culture team to effectively administer leave programs, benefits management, ADA claims, and worker's compensation/safety. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources, Benefits and Payroll. This position also works closely and collaboratively with the rest of the People and Culture staff.
Responsibilities: - Manage leave of absences and ADA reasonable accommodation requests. Work closely with employees and their managers when processing requests. Ensures proper and thorough documentation and communication for each request
- Manage the benefits program by processing enrollments, terminations, and QLEs. Assist with open enrollment, and audit the benefits deductions from payroll reports
- Assist with the worker's compensation process. This includes providing injured employees the proper paperwork, filing claims, investigating injuries, OSHA reporting and managing ongoing claims. Work with JFS staff and leaders to investigate claims and identify safety training needs
- Manage COVID-19 policies which includes monitoring COVID-19 laws, contact tracing, and reporting COVID-19 cases as needed
- Coordinate with JFS human resources team and payroll team on HR compliance, policies, procedures, and elevated HR issues
- Timely processing of HR mail (EDD Unemployment claims, SDI, PFL, VOEs, and other forms as needed)
- Miscellaneous administrative tasks as they pertain to the above job responsibilities.
- Take part in the JFS Wellness Team
- Other HR tasks and projects as assigned
Skills/Abilities That Are a Must-Have: - 2-3 years of experience in the Human Resources field
- Experience with Leave of Absence and ADA management, required
- Experience with Benefits management
- Knowledge of California Human Resources laws, including but not limited to ADA, Labor laws, Leaves of Absence laws
- Strong understanding of Excel, comfortable with analyzing data on a spreadsheet
- Operates with a high level of customer service and excellent communication skills
- Excellent technical skills and ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Organized with a strong attention to detail
- Excellent problem solving and time management skills, ability to prioritize as needed
Skills/Abilities We'd Like You to Have: - Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- Experience with UKG Pro, a plus
- SHRM-CP or PHR, a plus
- Experience at a non-profit organization, a plus
