The Annual Fund Manager works with the museum Development team to manage JANM’s Annual Fund (Annual Benefit, membership, donor appeals, and communication), and develop and implement a comprehensive donor stewardship plan that engages current and prospective major donors.
The Annual Fund Manager is responsible for the overall design and management of JANM’s Annual Fund and individual opportunities to meet the institution’s revenue goals. They will create a framework for an Individual Giving Program that will target donors who can make gifts within the range of $500 to $2,500 annually.
This will include small and large-scale membership and donor events (in-person, hybrid, and online). This role will include a central project management role working to communicate and execute within event timelines; complete event marketing and production tasks; and proactively communicate and coordinate fundraising tasks with the Development team. In addition, the Annual Fund Manager will work with Development and the Marketing & Communications staff to develop and implement an annual donor communications strategy to steward and cultivate current and potential donors.

Bachelor’s degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and development experience.
At least 6 years of successful fundraising and/or events management experience are required. Creative, organized professional with demonstrated team-based fundraising success. Experience working at a nonprofit or museum with volunteers desired. Proven, successful project management and relationship-building skills. Proactive self-starter able to work both individually and as a member of a team. Ability to manage multiple needs and assignments in a fast-paced, nonprofit setting. Familiarity with local nonprofit and educational communities is preferred. Excellent organizational skills and be detail-oriented. Strong proofreading skills. Professional phone manner is essential. Demonstrated commitment and flexibility in order to ensure a high level of quality service. Ability to adjust and provide appropriate action when an unanticipated need arises. Familiarity with Little Tokyo Community and Japanese surnames beneficial. Knowledge of Japanese American/Asian American history and culture is preferred.
Has excellent communication and negotiation skills. Genuine commitment to the mission of the museum and ability to articulate the importance of the organization's work. Must be able to provide courteous and effective service to co-workers, volunteers, and the general public. Is able to read, write and comprehend routine reports and correspondence, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Is able to effectively present information in a one-on-one, small group format and large group format.
Is computer literate, Internet-savvy, and experienced with MS Office and Google Suite; experience with Altru or similar CRM database. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to act on own initiative, making consistently sound decisions. Must be able to comply with institutional policies and procedures. Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload. Ability to plan and manage tasks according to firm deadlines, clearly communicate delays, and respond to request in a timely manner. Ability to make practical decisions and solve problems, adapt to change, and communicate effectively. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and articulate challenges and request support where needed. Reliable follow-through on assigned projects in a complete, well-conceived, and timely manner.
