The Gallery Attendant for the temporary exhibition, Glenn Kaino: Aki’s Market provides Museum visitors with access to the technical and hands-on experiences connected to the exhibitions and displays currently in operation. These experiences are located in the Weingart Gallery, the Hirasaki National Resource Center, or other designated spaces. Needs to be flexible in scheduling hours and days of work, requires some evening and weekend hours with availability for approximately 12–18 hours a week. Must be available for 2–3 days per week: 11 a.m.–4 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday; 1 p.m.–7 p.m. Thursdays; and 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday and Sundays. Temporary position from August 2023 through January 28, 2024.

Bachelors degree in art, museum studies, or history preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum one year of experience in engaging visitors in a museum setting and/or experience in leading group tours in a museum setting. Previous Gallery attendant experience is preferred. Demonstrated ability to show sensitivity to audiences with diverse backgrounds. Experience in providing customer service in a public setting. Demonstrate commitment and flexibility at all times in order to ensure high quality of service. Knowledge of Japanese American history and culture a plus.
Has excellent communication and negotiation skills. Is able to read, write, and comprehend routine reports and correspondence, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Demonstrated ability to speak in front of large groups of people and effectively present educational information to people of varying ages. Must be able to provide courteous and effective service to the public. Ability to negotiate in challenging situations.
Is Computer literate, Internet savvy, and experienced using technology like Ipad, smart phones, VR headsets, databases, Google Calendar, and Gmail preferred. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
Act on own initiative. Perform successfully under a fast-paced, changing work environment. Demonstrate reliability and promptness when scheduled for tours.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for an extended period of time, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects and controls. The employee must move equipment up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Employee will spend the majority of their time in museum galleries. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
All employees are required to be up to date on the COVID-19 vaccine and have the bivalent (Fall 2022) booster dose when eligible.
The Gallery Attendant position is a temporary, part-time position for the duration of the temporary exhibition Glenn Kaino: Aki’s Market. Please note, however, that this is an at-will position, meaning that your employment may be terminated at any time, with or without notice, and with or without cause. There is, in other words, no guarantee that you will be employed until any date in the future, Including January 28, 2024.
