Job Description:
A Medical Assistant Apprentice is responsible for learning the Medical Assistant trade at Intermountain Healthcare while attending a Medical Assistant Program.OVERVIEW
The Medical Assistant Apprentice program is about a year long and will help you become a Certified Medical Assistant. We will ask for an additional year commitment upon the program's completion.
This position pays $17.26 an hour and will start on June 24, 2024. Please only apply if you can accept this pay rate once selected for the position.
Classroom training for this position will be located at Nevada Partners, 690 West Lake Mead Blvd, North Las Vegas, NV 89030.Classroom hours are Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. to noon on Fridays.
Clinical rotations will be located in the Las Vegas area clinics.During your 1,200 clinical hours, you will be partnered with a Medical Assistant Preceptor in each clinic where you will be assigned.You will work the schedule of the preceptor in each clinic which can be anywhere from 36 to 40 hours a week depending on the clinic.
Intermountain Health caregivers must be in good performance standing and been in your current position for 6 months before applying to the apprenticeship program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Possesses aptitude for the Medical Assistant trade.
2. Essential read-only use and navigation of electronic medical records.
3. Responsible for quality and continuous improvement within the job scope throughout all rotations once you have completed a 90 day to MA class. Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate IMH's commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care, and concern with internal and external customers.
4. Observes vital signs and other pertinent patient information while shadowing their preceptor.
5. Responsible for all actions/responsibilities as described in company-controlled documentation for this position. Contributes to and supports the corporation's quality initiatives by adopting and communicating the corporation's quality improvement efforts.
6. Uses, protects, and discloses HCP patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
7. Observes/view various procedures such as ear lavage, ECG, spirometry, injections, peak flows, pulse oximetry, breathing treatments, suture removals, wound dressings, vision/hearing tests, urine pregnancy tests, urine dips, blood glucose testing, and blood hemoglobin (hemocue) testing.
8. Assists clinicians with procedures that vary in levels of complexity while with a preceptor.
9. Shadows preceptor on patient on lab, radiology, and other procedure/testing preparations.
10. Observes in visit closure with patient and clinician for next steps for lab, x-ray, referrals, DME, etc.
11. Inquires and is open-minded to learning the Medical Assistant trade throughout the organization.
12. Observes the handling and delivery of patient service recovery methods Participates regularly in skills aptitude training and evaluations. Participates regularly in site staff and department meetings, huddles, etc.
13. Maintains and cleans exam/treatment areas, specimen processing areas, and medical equipment with the support of the mentee; Stocks exam rooms, treatment/procedure rooms, specimen processing areas, and nursing stations with the support of the preceptor
14. Escalate potential emergency situations to the appropriate level.
15. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
17. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.
18. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
EDUCATION
Required: High School Diploma or GED required
Selected for our 90-day Medical Assistant program.
Required: Successful completion of a 90-day class instruction to move to clinical portion of training program.
