Purpose: The Prescription Services Coordinator provides administrative assistance in providing prescription services to patients. Duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining the e-prescription system, physician dispensing, tracking prescriptions, and interfacing with insurance companies regarding prescription claims. Responsibilities/Essential Functions (other duties as assigned):
Accurately tracks all prescriptions that are written by physicians. Keeps an accurate daily log of all prescriptions dispensed in the CCA IOD and those electronically prescribed.
Effectively supervises and monitors all prescriptions written in the facility, ensuring a qualified E-prescribing system has been adopted and every prescription is written in compliance with Medicare guidelines.
Cheerfully greets patients at the IOD window and explains the CCA prescription system and confirms patient information on file. Provides patients with a choice of physician dispensing, when possible, or e-prescription to a pharmacy of their choice.
Effectively uses Centricity and Pioneer to verify patient prescription coverage insurance to accurately bill according to coverage plan.
Accurately inputs prescriptions for physician dispensing using Pioneer software. Ensures accurate patient information is submitted for claim and confirms proper claim has been captured.
Effectively works with insurance companies, obtaining prior authorization for physician dispensing medication claims that are rejected. Follows up on submitted authorization requests as needed.
Effectively completes other assignments as assigned by management.
Experience, Qualifications/Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; two-year degree preferred
Pharmacy technician certification
Zero to two years related work experience or training
Knowledge of computer/telephony support, preferably in a health care environment
Strong customer service background, preferably in health care environment
Excellent verbal communication skills
Competence with computer processing functions and other standard office equipment
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
Ability to calmly and professionally resolve customer issues with diplomacy and tact
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong organizational skills
Working Conditions:
This position functions primarily indoors in a medical / business environment. Employee may be subject to blood borne pathogens, radiation, bio waste and other medically-related factors, with exposure to moderate noise levels.
Visual acuity to read and compute screen and paper documents; close and distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, ability to adjust focus; hearing acuity to converse with staff and customers; ability to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and lift and move 25 pounds on a regular basis; ability to sit for hours at a time Employee will be exposed to moderate noise levels, interruptions, and occasionally asked to work evening and weekends as needed.
