Position Summary
As a Civil Engineer, you will:
- Play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, and implementation of roadway projects, ensuring strict adherence to NC DOT regulations and standards.
- Your technical proficiency and familiarity with NC DOT policies and procedures will be essential in delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable roadway solutions.
- Experience with Design-Bid-Build projects is a valuable asset.
- This role entails active participation in diverse roadway design and transportation projects, including but not limited to data collection, alignment establishment, engineering calculations, and plan preparation.
Position Requirements
A successful Civil Engineer at ICE will have:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- 5-7 years of engineering experience in transportation/design with strong technical skills in roadway design.
- Advanced proficiency with design-related software such as MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Geopak, and Corridor Modeler, particularly Word and Excel, is required.
- Proficient in reading and understanding surveys, drawings, and legal descriptions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
- Ability to efficiently complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, focusing on client service (internal and external).
- Highly motivated to learn and grow professionally in a supportive team environment.
- Ability to demonstrate strong organizational, project, and time management skills.
- A valid Driver’s License is required with a safe driving record and must complete a pre-employment screening.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US.

Desired Qualifications:
It would be preferred if the Civil Engineer has:
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification preferred or EIT with 5 years of related experience.
- Experience with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NC DOT) systems, policies, and procedures is preferred.
Physical Demands: While working in the office, this position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Must have visual acuity to recognize/change/add precise details on CAD drawings.
During fieldwork, the position entails moderate physical exertion, encompassing walking, standing, bending, and ascending stairs or ladders. The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork exposes inspectors to various environmental conditions, including but not limited to loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and temperature fluctuations. Inspectors must adeptly navigate construction sites and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
