Water Resources Designer (EIT) - Raleigh, NC
ICE of Carolinas, PLLC (ICE) is seeking a talented Water Resources Designer (EIT) to join our team and support the design of infrastructure projects in the Southeast. As part of our team, you will work closely with Project Engineers on Design-Bid-Build alternative delivery infrastructure projects to provide technical planning, design, and construction support for hydrologic and hydraulic models, erosion control, stormwater abatement, and green infrastructure on highway, bridge, municipal street, and pedestrian projects.
Position Summary: The Water Resource Designer (EIT) coordinates drainage design activities, performs field investigations, prepares specifications, develops cost estimates, and reviews design work for compliance with DOT regulations. The person in this role will utilize expertise in MicroStation - GEOPAK drainage and/or Open Roads Designer (ORD) to produce drainage designs, profiles, stormwater alleviation, and pavement drainage.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Hydrologic & hydraulic modeling, scour analysis, highway drainage design, and stormwater management in compliance with local, State DOT, and NCDENR requirements.
  • Assist with coordinating drainage design activities on highway and bridge construction projects to include technical planning, design, and construction support for hydrologic and hydraulic models, erosion control, storm water abatement, and green infrastructure.
  • Perform field investigations and assessments of project sites to aid in the hydraulic design process.
  • Prepare and assist with specifications and permit submittals.
  • Assist in developing preliminary project cost estimates and evaluating quantities.
  • Attend client, public, project, and staff meetings, including client progress, plan review, and pre-construction.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an ABET- accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field required.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of civil engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with state practices required.
  • Must have math calculation skills, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) experience.
  • Strong written and communication skills required.
  • A valid Driver's License is required with a safe driving record and must complete a pre-employment screening.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • ICE is a drug-free workplace.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Drainage design, bridge, culvert modeling, scour analysis, and erosion control experience with NCDOT projects preferred.
  • Experience with MicroStation, Open Roads Designer (ORD), HydroCAD, Geopak drainage, Hec Ras and other engineering/modeling software is desired.

  • 40-hour work week with office hours from 8:00am-5:00pm, allowing 1 unpaid hour for lunch each day. Occasional overtime may be necessary dependent on project deadlines, which is compensated according to company policy.
Physical Demands: While working in the office, this position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Must have visual acuity to recognize/change/add precise details on CAD drawings.
During fieldwork, the position entails moderate physical exertion, encompassing walking, standing, bending, and ascending stairs or ladders. The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork exposes inspectors to various environmental conditions, including but not limited to loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and temperature fluctuations. Inspectors must adeptly navigate construction sites and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
