SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

The Reporting and Compliance Analyst is a member of the Finance Division and reports directly to the Senior Reporting and Compliance Analyst. This individual helps the team meets its operational and strategic goals by helping ensure our internal and external reports and data submissions are accurate, submitted timely, and conform to the coding mandated by the Indiana State Board of Accounts and Indiana Department of Education. This role serves a vital function within the district by collaborating with external accountants in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and working closely with the external auditors in completing the annual GAAP-based audit of the ACFR.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Audit and Internal Controls 

Serves as liaison to external auditing firm and consultants engaged to provide professional services and guidance; responsible for coordinating delivery of requested information and tracking/managing outstanding requests related to annual GAAP-based audit. 

Completes internal audits as needed to ensure internal control gaps do not exist. 

Ensures that all employees completed state required internal control training.

Reporting and Team Support 

Supports the district in ensuring all Local, State and Federally mandated financial reporting is completed and accurate. 

Completes IPS specific reporting requested by the Board of School Commissioners, Chief Financial Officer, and other internal team members. 

Supports investment of district funds per state statute and board policy. 

Performs online banking functions related to ACH and wire transfers. 

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

On a regular day, as the Reporting and Compliance Analyst, you might: 

Review district cash accounts to plan short-term cash flow needs. 

Compile and review data sets in Excel to address any discrepancies. 

Meet with the auditors to analyze account balances and accounting systems to ensure efficiency and accuracy. 

Respond timely to requests for information from different departments. 

Analyze data sets, generate and disseminate cohesive reports designed with end-user needs in mind. 

Research IDOE and SBOA guidelines for any updates.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three to five years’ experience with progressive responsibility in a financial accounting environment. Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Finance or Accounting is required. Proficiency with MS Excel required. Familiarity with Tyler Technologies and MUNIS and experience with SQL reporting preferred.
