Job Description: Peer Specialist
Position Overview:
The Peer Specialist at in2Action is a critical role responsible for providing support, guidance, and mentorship to peer support specialists to facilitate their growth in recovery and professional development. Additionally, this position will oversee case management services for individuals recently released from prison, assisting them in their reintegration into the community. In2Action is a faith-based transition program for people with substance use disorders providing comprehensive transition support including but not limited to recovery housing, recovery coaching, respite care, vocational and professional development, and various other recovery support services. Key Responsibilities:
Peer Support Specialist Support:
· Provide ongoing support, coaching, and mentorship to peer support specialists to enhance their skills, knowledge, and effectiveness in supporting individuals in recovery.
· Conduct regular check-ins and performance evaluations with peer support specialists to assess progress, address challenges, and identify opportunities for growth.
· Develop and facilitate training sessions and/or workshops to promote continuous learning and professional development among peer support specialists.
Recovery and Professional Development:
· Assist peer support specialists in setting personal and professional goals related to their recovery journey and career development.
· Collaborate with peer support specialists to create individualized recovery plans and strategies for overcoming barriers to success.
· Provide guidance on self-care practices, boundary setting, and maintaining healthy boundaries in peer support relationships.
Case Management Services:
· Provide case management services to individuals recently released from prison, including needs assessment, service coordination, and goal setting.
· Assist clients in accessing community resources and support services, such as housing assistance, employment training, substance abuse treatment, and mental health services.
· Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure their needs are met and their rights are upheld throughout the reintegration process.
Collaboration and Networking:
· Build and maintain relationships with community partners, agencies, and service providers to facilitate access to resources and support services for clients.
· Participate in multidisciplinary teams and collaborative efforts aimed at improving outcomes for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
· Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and forums to raise awareness of the program and build partnerships with stakeholders.
Qualifications:
· Lived experience as a former prisoner and/or recovery from substance use disorder preferred.
· Minimum of 2 years of experience working in peer support, case management, or related fields.
· Strong understanding of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and person-centered approaches.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with diverse populations.
· Demonstrated ability to provide effective coaching, mentorship, and support to individuals in recovery.
· Knowledge of community resources, social services, and support networks for individuals reentering the community from prison.
