Position Function: This is an administrative management position, that represents Nursing Administration. As the senior nursing administrative person on site, this person assesses the overall hospital environment and operations. He/she is accountable to problem solve for the organization and to initiate immediate, effective action. Direct, coordinates, monitors and evaluates unit activities including hiring/disciplinetermination of employees, staff education, staff evaluations, changes in policies and procedures, scheduling and performance improvement. Communicates with physicians on patient care issues II. Job Relationships Maintains a collaborative relationship with the unit managers, and other hospital leaders. Supervises the following staff by job category: -Staff nurses-Behavioral health technicians-Unit coordinators Collaborates with Directors/managers/staff of all disciplines to provide patient care Serves as a resource to all members of the health care team III. Authority To problem solve for the organization an initiating immediate, effective action. To communicate pertinent information to the Administrator on call/CNO.Determine allocation of nursing resources for the smooth operation of the unit To suspend personnel within guidelines established. To expedite patient flow within and communicate with intake about discharges. IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential functions: Delegates patient care assignments based on staff experience skills level and complexity of patient needs. Evaluates staffing requirements for current and subsequent shifts, maintaining productivity standards. Assists staff in completing assignments on time Accurately completes API weekly. Edit time cards daily within requested timeframe that affects productivity. Contributes to hospital performance improvement program. Identifies and analyzes processes to improve. Implements strategies, collects and evaluates data and measures improvements. Provides education, orientation and clinical supervision/ oversight to staff Complete performance evaluations at 90 days and annually for employees within the Department on a timely basis. Provides direct clinical supervision oversight of staff ensuring hospital and Department policies and procedures are followed. Assist staff in identifying, resolving and documenting patient care issues utilizing critical thinking skills and current knowledge of trends, standards and nursing practice. Holds employees accountable for quality care. Provides leadership within the Department. Conducts monthly unit meetings, educates staff on new and revised policies. Demonstrates conflict resolution skills. Able to effectively manage emergency/ crisis situations. Communicates clearly with physicians, unit staff and other department's and utilizes interdisciplinary approach to meet patient needs. Communicates regularly with CNO, goals, objectives and status of work product within the Department. B. Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions: Performs related duties as directed by CNO or hospital president V. Reporting requirements : Reports to CNO Reports serious incidents and/or severe breaches in the quality of care to the CNO, hospital president , risk manager , or quality director. VI. Accountability: Is accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all hospital related, medical staff related, and patient related data and information. Is accountable for abiding by Saint Luke's Behavioral Health Center policies and procedures. Is accountable for staffing within budgetary guidelines. Is accountable for monitoring and implementing clinical competencies for staff. Is accountable to inform the CNO or hospital president of any significant event that affects the organization. VII. Qualifications: Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing BSN preferred Minimum Experience: Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience preferred Minimum skills/abilities: Proven experience and leadership ability in management and clinical practice. Able to communicate verbally and in writing in the English language. Able to complete mathematical computations required to administer medications and treatment protocols.
