Job Summary

Performs repair and maintenance of the facility, grounds, equipment, and vehicles of the Humane Society of The Pikes Peak Region and assigned departments. Assists with the physical set-up and breakdown of fundraising events and other functions. Assists with custodial duties when necessary. Keeps an open communication line to Facilities Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Maintenance

• Maintains and keeps inventory of all building equipment, supplies, tools, and other HSPPR equipment.
• Assists with ensuring all mechanical systems are functioning effectively throughout facilities, including but not limited to; swamp coolers, furnaces, air conditioning, air filtration system, chemical pump system, and plumbing. Schedules maintenance and repairs accordingly and perform preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Assists with maintaining and adequately stocking parts for regularly scheduled replacement and scheduling repairs.
• Assists maintain the interior and exterior working order, cleanliness, and physical appearance of HSPPR facilities, including but not limited to; repairs, painting, window washing, waste removal, and parking lots.
• Assists with coordinating, prioritizing, and adequately documenting maintenance requests, projects, and repairs.
• Assists with maintaining HSPPR vehicles and schedules repairs, service and ensures registration.
• Assists with maintaining all grounds, including landscaping, sprinkler system, and parking lot.
• Assists with providing snow removal for the HSPPR Colorado Springs campus.
• Follows established policies, procedures, practices, and operational equipment instructions.

Custodial

• May assist with routine custodial cleaning, upkeep, and HSPPR Colorado Springs campus facilities maintenance to include public areas, staff areas, restrooms, and external areas.

Special Events

• Assists set up and break down special events or other promotions requiring the use of equipment, staging, or moving a high volume of supplies to various locations.
• Assists in setting up meetings, presentations, room rentals, and training events.

Customer Service

• Ensures quality service is provided to both people and animal clients.
• Responds to requests for assistance and repairs promptly to ensure quality client service and effective operations.
• Assists HSPPR staff in situations requiring immediate problem-solving. Promotes good public relations under HSPPR practices; when appropriate, takes control of situations that could potentially damage the professional image of the Society.
• Represents HSPPR professionally and courteously at all times.
• Provides quality service to clients, volunteers, and employees, recognizing their contributions to the success of HSPPR.

Other

• Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of HSPPR.
• Appropriately documents observed animal behaviors utilizing objective language as required in relevant procedures and policies.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

• Regularly sits at a computer station, often in a shared office environment.
• The employee must regularly lift and move 60 or more pounds of moving weight and occasionally lift and move up to 40 or more pounds of moving weight.
• May be occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
• Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and frequently stand and walk.
• May be expected to be on feet for extended periods.
• Consistently exposed to animals in the workplace and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available.

• Must be able to use both hands and arms to grip, pull, and push utilizing equipment and safety equipment used to repair, maintain, and clean facilities.

• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• They are regularly exposed to noise and potential exposure to hazardous weather conditions.
• Potential exposure to cleaning supplies and other substances containing toxic or caustic chemicals.

Schedule Requirements

A schedule will include weekend and holiday work.

Education/Experience Necessary

• Minimum three years experience in any of the following: facilities maintenance, construction, custodial or related field.
• High School Diploma or GED
• Knowledge of animal disease transmission, shelter medicine, animal behavior, and handling or animal habitat preferred.
• Valid Colorado Driver's License and insurable driving record.
