Position Summary:

Hillenbrand is looking for an Electrical Cost Engineer to join our team remotely. In this newly created position as a Cost Engineer, you will be responsible for working closely with cross-functional teams to develop cost analytics models to help derive insights and drive negotiations with suppliers for Hillenbrand’s strategic sourcing function, focusing on electrical products.

Work You’ll Do:

• Generate cost-analytics models and clean-sheet analysis for specific products or services, providing strategic sourcing insights and negotiation support. Conduct product teardowns and Should-Cost Analyses to identify potential savings.

• Develop analytic and parametric Should-Cost models to assist teams in setting cost targets for negotiation. Implement processes and templates to standardize Should-Cost Analysis in Strategic Sourcing.

• Identify and implement software tools for developing cost models and cost analytics. Support negotiation activities with fact-based arguments, acting as a consultant to the Global Category Management team or other internal stakeholders.

• Analyze and present numerical data on target costs, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to facilitate sourcing decisions across various product categories. Work with Global Category Managers or local Procurement Teams to build future product line and component cost model roadmaps.

• Develop training modules to educate leaders and the team on cost modeling and its usefulness in supplier negotiations, providing training as required.

Team:

A Cost Engineer is an integral part of our center-led Global Supply Management organization that will report directly to the Senior Director of Strategy, Optimization and Process in Global Supply Management.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, supply chain management, or other related technical field

• 5 years of experience in a supply chain or sourcing role with proven experience in Should-Cost Analysis, price modelling and clean sheeting

• Proficiency in applying clean sheeting, cost-modeling and general cost-analysis using common software solutions

• Strong experience with data visualization tools (preferably Power BI, Tableau, or similar)

• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree preferred

• Experience working in a global matrix organization highly preferred

• Knowledge of cost estimating methods such as target costing and linear performance pricing

• Strong understanding of manufacturing technologies such as machining, injection molding, milling, sheet metal processing, etc.

• Understanding of lean manufacturing and effects of manufacturing costs driven by product design

• Experience with supply chain management systems, ERP, CAD, and PLM software a plus

• Experience in applying AI methods to improve efficiency and output quality a plus
