Job Summary:

Electrical Engineers at Codonics perform design, development, test, debug, transfer to production, and ongoing quality assurance of innovative electro-mechanical products. The Electrical Engineer provides capability in digital and analog electronics design, programmable logic, firmware, PCB design, and system-level design, specification, and integration. He/She provides system-level input into software, firmware, mechanics, physics, and other sciences as required.

The Electrical Engineer has ownership of substantial pieces of new designs and current products and works independently in his/her areas of expertise. The Electrical Engineer works closely with Senior Engineers as a part of ongoing growth and development.

Duties and Responsibilities(subject to change):

  • Performs component-level specification and design of electronics and electromechanics for new and existing products.
  • Develops firmware for control of electromechanical systems.
  • Performs integration between host computers, electronics, and electromechanical systems.
  • Performs thorough design verification to verify conformance and robustness of a new design.
  • Supports existing products and manufacturing by debugging production line failures, performing failure analysis, qualifying new components, and dispositioning bad parts.
  • Works with Manufacturing to develop systems that are highly manufacturable.
  • Works with suppliers to develop custom components, improve manufacturing processes, and to solve vendor design and performance problems.
  • Responsible for specifying methods, procedures and tools necessary for the inspection and manufacture of a design. Develops Manufacturing and Inspection test tools.
  • Performs risk analyses.
  • Works with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, and suppliers to resolve product failure or quality issues that arise during the life of products.
  • Contributes to patent applications for new inventions and technology.
  • Keeps abreast of industry technology.
  • Some domestic and international travel required.

Required Skills:

  • Design experience and/or training related to many of the following technologies:
    • Digital electronics design / computer engineering
    • Analog and mixed-signal electronics design
    • PCB design and layout
    • Sensor systems
    • FPGA programming, VHDL
    • Embedded systems design
    • Firmware development
    • Control of electromechanical systems
    • Electromagnetic compliance: including board and system-level design for EMC; EMC test, debug, and remediation
  • Software skills preferred:
    • Significant programming experience in any language
    • C / C , Java, and assembly programming languages preferred
    • Linux operating systems familiarity
    • Unix and Windows scripting languages
    • Knowledge of sound software design practices
  • Strong fundamentals in the following:
    • Mechanics, mechanical systems, statics, and dynamics
    • Physics
    • Properties of materials
  • A strong designer. Effective at making system-level tradeoff decisions.
  • Shows good engineering judgment. Scales designs appropriately.
  • Able to solve challenging technical and interdisciplinary problems. Skilled at finding the root cause of failures or design problems.
  • Technically adaptable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Education and Experience:

BSEE or MSEE

1 years experience in electrical or computer engineering with focus on electromechanical and embedded systems.
