Horizon Project, Inc. is Hiring a Direct Support Professional (paid training) Near Pendleton, OR

Description

We are a local nonprofit that is hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their journey to live a full and dignified life, both in their homes and in the community. Everyday duties include cleaning, housekeeping, medication administration, cooking, caregiving, and bathing. Additionally, DSPs accompany our clients when they go fishing, attend the fair, shop for clothing, or go on vacation. We make a difference in someone's life!

Our full-time employees work a consistent schedule every week. There are opportunities for overtime. We provide extensive paid on-the-job training to help you successfully help others! 

No prior experience is required! However, prior experience as a caregiver (or related field) is considered when offering a starting wage.

Wage Range: $16 - $22 per hour, starting wage depending on experience

Location: PENDLETON, OR

Full-time employees qualify for our benefits package which includes partially company-paid medical, dental, and vision. Employees also earn paid vacation time and paid sick time (Subject to waiting periods).

Essential Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Following medical procedures regarding dispensing, administering, and documenting client medication, notifying appropriate persons of client injuries and accidents, and scheduling client medical appointments and follow-ups.
  • Following safety procedures including understanding evacuation plans, maintaining current CPR Certification (paid training provided), and ensuring a clean and safe living environment for the clients
  • Following program procedures regarding client service plans, individual support plans, and action plans.
  • Following financial procedures regarding client and household bank accounts and petty cash.
  • Assisting with client care including bathing, dental hygiene, transportation, housekeeping, and cooking.
  • Following professional behavior standards by communicating with teammates and supervisors, being open to suggestions for improvement, maintaining proper attendance, and respecting the dignity of teammates and clients

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age, clear an Oregon State criminal background check, and urine drug test.
  • Must have a valid driver's license that is insurable by Horizon Project's auto insurance provider (if applying to a shift with a driving requirement. Non-driving shifts are available, but limited).
  • Must complete CPR & First Aid training within first 90 days of employment (Paid training is provided).
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, verbal, oral, and written.

Physical Demands

Physical demands include assisting in all aspects of activities of daily living for clients, transporting clients, and traveling from location to location as needs dictate. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to handle documents and/or objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
