Horizon Project, Inc. is Hiring a Direct Support Professional and Job Coach Near Hermiston, OR

Description

Our STEP Center Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) promote independence for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) through the STEP Center Program (Steps to Empowerment Program). The HPI STEP Center provides person-centered training and activities that enable our clients to achieve employment, enhanced socialization and independence, or meet other personal goals. You may be trained as a job coach and earn an additional job coaching rate when supporting clients with jobs in the community.

No experience or certifications are required! On-the-job training is provided.

Wage Range: $16 - $22 per hour, starting wage depending on experience. However, prior experience as a caregiver, CNA, PSW, home health aid, etc, may be considered when offering a starting wage.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8AM-4PM (40 hrs per week)

This schedule may vary based on client needs - occasional weekends and evenings are required.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Fulfill the duties of Day Support, Community Living Support, or Job Coaching as assigned.
  • Following medical procedures regarding dispensing, administering, and documenting client medication, notifying appropriate persons of client injuries and accidents, and scheduling client medical appointments and follow-ups.
  • Following safety procedures including understanding evacuation plans, maintaining current CPR Certification (paid training provided), and ensuring a clean and safe living environment for the clients
  • Following program procedures regarding client service plans, individual support plans, and action plans.
  • Following financial procedures regarding client and household bank accounts and petty cash.
  • Assisting with client care including bathing, dental hygiene, transportation, housekeeping, and cooking.
  • Following professional behavior standards by communicating with teammates and supervisors, being open to suggestions for improvement, maintaining proper attendance, and respecting the dignity of teammates and clients

Requirements

  • Must be over the age of 18 years old
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must pass a pre-employment driving records screening
  • Must have a valid driver's license that is insurable by HPI's auto insurance provider (Driving Required Position)
  • Must pass a pre-employment Oregon State criminal background check

Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills (Typing, email, printer/copier)
  • Basic time management skills.
  • Ability to consistently, clearly, patiently, and respectfully communicate.
  • Ability to remain calm in a chaotic environment.
  • Ability to teach others and demonstrate compassion and patience.
  • Ability to understand and follow the clients Behavior Support Plan if applicable.
  • Ability to write and document information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to organize staff and client areas, documentation and files, and keep up with ongoing procedural and policy documentation and all updates.
  • Ability to develop and follow schedules, use basic math aptitude.
  • Ability to apply procedures and directions and follow through on all routine and as assigned responsibilities.

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule will vary to accommodate the schedules of the clients supported which may include evening and weekends. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees shall be present and on time for each shift that they are scheduled to work. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or another personal emergency.

Physical Demands

Position is active in nature. Must be able to monitor and observe the activities of program participants. Regularly move about or position self to supervise and interact with participants at their level. Occasionally lift, transport, position, push/pull or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Must be sufficiently mobile and possess a range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting. Ability to react quickly to the physical actions of program participant. Administrative and supervisory activities will require ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Sufficiently mobile to attend activities and meetings within the County. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Work Environment

This is primarily a community-based job and will involve interaction with intellectually and/or developmentally disabled individuals which can result in physical contact and/or verbal exchanges. This location will be determined by the employment of the client who requires job coaching.
