We are seeking a nurturing and enthusiastic Assistant Preschool Teacher to join our team at our center located in the vibrant Discovery District of downtown Columbus, Ohio. The Assistant Preschool Teacher will play a vital role in supporting the lead teacher in creating a stimulating and supportive learning environment for preschool-aged children.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead preschool teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and educational activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
- Engage and interact with preschoolers in meaningful ways, fostering positive relationships and providing individualized attention and support.
- Assist with daily routines and transitions, including arrival and departure, meals, toileting, and naptime, while promoting independence and self-help skills.
- Collaborate with the lead teacher and other staff members to plan and implement lessons and activities that align with curriculum goals and objectives.
- Support the assessment of preschoolers' progress and development, documenting observations and communicating with parents and families as needed.
- Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment, including setting up learning centers, organizing materials, and sanitizing toys and equipment.
- Foster positive peer interactions and pro-social behaviors among preschoolers, modeling kindness, respect, and empathy in all interactions.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in early childhood education.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, sanitation protocols, and emergency procedures to ensure a safe and healthy environment for preschoolers.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children in a licensed childcare or early childhood education setting.
- Knowledge of early childhood development principles and understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for this age group.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young children and supporting their growth and development.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and engage with parents and families.
- Ability to follow directions, work as part of a team, and adapt to changing priorities and routines.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
