Haydon Companies is Hiring a Sr. Estimator (Heavy Civil) Near Phoenix, AZ

SUMMARY Provide and/or coordinate full estimating services on large, complex work and all types of contracts.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man hour figures.Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.Provide complete conceptual (or bid work) and final estimating input on complex projects.Provide technical support to personnel preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids.Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures.Assist contracting department during preparation of inquiries and final evaluation of submitted bids as required.Track awarded contracts as required - may include estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, credit, procuring materials, etc.COMPETENCIESTo perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:Planning/Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources; sets goals and objectives; organizes or schedules other people and their tasks; develops realistic action plans.Innovation - Displays original thinking and creativity; meets challenges with resourcefulness; generates suggestions for improving work; develops innovative approaches and ideas; presents ideas and information in a manner that gets others' attention.Design - Generates creative solutions; translates concepts and information into images; uses feedback to modify designs; applies design principles; demonstrates attention to detail.Communications - Expresses ideas and thoughts verbally; expresses ideas and thoughts in written form; exhibits good listening and comprehension; keeps others adequately informed; selects and uses appropriate communication methods.Job Knowledge - Competent in required job skills and knowledge; exhibits ability to learn and apply new skills; keeps abreast of current developments; requires minimal supervision; displays understanding of how job relates to others; uses resources effectively.Leadership - Exhibits confidence in self and others; inspires and motivates others to perform well; effectively influences actions and opinions of others; accepts feedback from others; gives appropriate recognition to others.Analytical - Synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement data; designs workflows and procedures.Quantity - Meets productivity standards; completes work in timely manner; strives to increase productivity; works quickly.Diversity - Demonstrates knowledge of EEO/AAP policy; shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; educates others on the value of diversity; promotes a harassment-free environment; builds a diverse workforce.QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education and/or ExperienceBachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent combinations technical training and/or related experience.5-8 years estimating, cost control, and/or engineering experience (at least 4 years estimating experience) in similar facility construction. Thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts required. Broad knowledge and understanding of civil construction and methods including grading and earthwork, drainage, paving, etc. Advanced understanding of the project life cycle, including bid, proposal, and estimation process, and project management. Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts (e.g., Design Build, CMAR, Design-Bid-Build, etc.), plus ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort essential. Ability to prepare complex proposals with minimal supervision. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to negotiate to drive revenue. Excellent MS Office skills are required, in addition to experience utilizing scheduling and bid/estimating software.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to type, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
