Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento provides Sacramento and Yolo County individuals and families with a springboard to secure, stable futures through affordable homeownership, home repairs, and neighborhood revitalization. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento impacts thousands of people annually through home builds, repairs, and community projects.
The Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento ReStore is a retail outlet which sells new and gently used donated building materials, fixtures, and home furnishings at a significantly lower price than retail stores. Revenue generated helps to fuel the work and mission of Habitat. This past year, the ReStore diverted over 1 million pounds of usable materials from landfills and generated over $1 million in sales revenue to help support building and repairing homes, community, and hope in the Greater Sacramento region.
Your Impact:
The ReStore General Manager is responsible for successfully initiating, developing, and growing the Restore business activities to achieve revenue and operational goals set by the board of directors. Additionally, this role collaborates with the senior leadership team in strategic decision making and operational management to fulfill Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento’s strategic plan and goals.
Responsibilities include the overall effectiveness of the ReStore business: operations, inventory management, financial accountability systems development and implementation (in concert with Finance Department), staff training and management, strategic planning, and budget creation and oversight. The ReStore General Manager should bring significant retail experience to operations, creating and implementing best practices.
Core Responsibilities:
· Create and ensure a consistently welcoming, engaging, and friendly environment for ReStore shoppers, staff, and volunteers focused on the ethos of our mission of community and collaboration
· Lead the Restore management team and staff to ensure consistent performance in the ReStore and adherence to Habitat policy and procedure in all activities
· Develop and implement store policy with input from ReStore management and Leadership Team
· Work with CFO and CEO to establish ReStore annual sales goals and operational budget that supports the operational decisions with documented financial analysis to include profit margins, sales per sq ft, sales comparison year over year, cost per donation pickup, ROI of marketing expenses, expenses as a percentage of sales, break-even analysis and inventory management
· Maintain a safe work and retail environment
· Steward existing ReStore donors; identify and cultivate new prospects for the donation of goods to be sold in the ReStore
· Track, develop and report on monthly, quarterly, and annual performance metrics for the ReStore
· Adequately staff the Restore with employees and volunteers
· Lead relationships and processes with ReStore vendors
· Follow trends in social entrepreneurship, reuse, philanthropy, and retail, identifying and researching business opportunities and viable income streams
· Serve as a member of the Leadership Team for the organization
· Develop and implement annual marketing strategies and business plans to support and achieve ReStore growth sales revenue goals with design support from marketing staff. Includes collateral, social media, outreach strategies
· Manage and maintain a salesfloor that drives sales including effective merchandising, branded signage, professional marketing, welcoming and helpful customer service
· Identify and implement opportunities to reduce expenses and create increased operational efficiency
· Effectively manage daily cash handling and financial operations to identify and reduce opportunities for loss
· Work with CFO to establish and implement policies and protocol to support clean accounting systems and reporting
· Become on-site expert in Point of Sale system operations, programming, and functionality
· Work cooperatively with Transportation and Logistics Coordinator, receiving team, and floor staff to maintain organized flow of product to the sales floor
· Devise and implement inventory management and pricing system, including the tracking of inventory and product sales mix by categories, such as home construction, furniture, resale, and recycle
· Oversee communication, scheduling, and pick up plan for residential donations. Supervise and collaborate with Transportation and Logistics Coordinator on vehicle usage and scheduling to meet residential donation goals while maintaining commitments to and relationships with corporate donors
· Ensure safety of ReStore staff and shoppers by implementing and following CalOSHA, insurance, and affiliate policies and regulations and by maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the ReStore sales floor and storage areas
· Responsible for overall facilities maintenance and safety program planning/implementation
· Report on all ReStore Human Resources needs:
o Report to Director of Operations for job posting, interviewing, and hiring for full time and part time positions as well as documentation of corrective action and staff development plans
o Work collaboratively with Community Engagement Manager and Volunteer Coordinator to create a steady flow of volunteer support and team members for ReStore operations
o Work with ReStore Manager to create weekly/monthly ReStore staff schedule, ensuring compliance with break and meal, overtime, and other labor laws
o Support and train staff and volunteers in providing attentive and friendly customer service
o Maintain records for ongoing training (forklift certification, lifting safety, hazardous materials handling, etc.)
Miscellaneous Duties:
· Support special events and storage needs for other departments as needed within ReStore and warehouse operations
· Become familiar with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge to track communications with ReStore donors and regular customers
· Work sales floor as needed
Required Qualifications:
Seeking an experienced retail professional with over five (5) years of work history in sales and staff management; preferably in a big-box or resale retail environment. Only solution oriented, team players need apply. A successful individual in this role will have exceptional time management skills, superior organization aptitudes, the ability to take initiative, be self-motivated, resourceful, detail-oriented and energetic. The capability to prioritize and handle multiple projects is essential. Possess outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading skills as well as excellent social work service and interpersonal abilities. Candidate should be able to maintain calm in tense circumstances and be adept at diffusing issues with difficult customers. Must have excellent PC knowledge - Microsoft Office Suite applications, Adobe Acrobat Pro, PowerPoint, and Excel (including charts). Must be a proficient typist and have experience with database management. The right person will work effectively with other employees, volunteers, donors, board members, and the public.

Physical Requirements: Physical requirements are those that are present in a warehouse and retail environment. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, stand for long periods of time, kneel, squat, climb, and twist. Should have the ability to work in extreme temperatures as warehouse is not climate controlled.
