ASSISTANT DIRECTOR ~ JOB DESCRIPTION
Work with our Team of Teachers to guarantee training, observation and coaching needs are met.
Perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of our holistic WG model and component; and thorough knowledge and application of Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
Monitor the implementation of curricula and Reggio Emilia teaching in the classrooms.
Supervise all classroom practices - room arrangement, lesson plans, daily schedules, routines, and transitions to assure their adherence to WG program policies, or TRS/United Way, or other, evaluation standards.
Train and supervise children's assessment, including observations in each area, examples of the child's work, developmental assessments, and children's assessment data entry and outcome reports;
Supervise that parent conferences are held according to the WG policy and requirements and that they are used to discuss each child's individual development plan, assisting the parents in helping the development of their child at home.
Identify and prioritize materials and equipment needed in classrooms and playgrounds, and coordinate with executive director in making purchases; understand that we are a non-profit organization and so we focus heavily on community co-creation and support from partner-organizations.
Lead responsibility for parent involvement and create a nourishing environment.
Coordinate the transition of children into their next grade starting with Kindergarten, and assist with the children's transition to their next destination (into the new grade level and our upper classes).
Attend staff training and meetings, board and parent meetings, as well as Market Days and Events (typically scheduled during regular school hours and training days) as requested.
Assist individual staff members in identifying their training needs, and improving their knowledge and abilities, moving them to their next level and supporting what makes their heart sing.
Participate in the development of I.B.P. (Individual Behavioral Plans and I.L.P.’s (Individual Learning Plans).
Assist in recruiting and orienting teachers, interns and volunteers, providing them with guidance as needed.
Evaluate the performance of teaching staff, at the end of probation and annually thereafter, and recommend subsequent personnel action to E.D.
Actively participate in the development and implementation of the Teacher Professional Development Plan (to support licensing/regulations, TRS and United Way).
Assure that files and documentation are complete, accurate, and confidentiality maintained; and,
Effectively conduct meetings and training sessions, and to prepare reports that are clear, complete, comprehensive.
Develops educational program curricula in conjunction with teaching staff, parents and other center staff and in accordance with established WG policies and procedure.
Assume Center Director duties and Teacher duties as needed during absence (we keep a well balanced flow and we support each other, so that it feels aligned and healthy).
Support bilingual speaking Teachers and Parents as needed during Conferences, and their daily flow, ensuring a good communication flow and accurate information being shared.
Perform any other duties as required.
Requirements
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Bilingual Spanish speaking.
Must have previous management or coaching experience and at least 1 full year of experience working in a licensed educational facility, or at a university, in the role of coach or mentor to teachers.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and work-experience.
Must meet state requirements for education and additional center/school requirements, such as passing a background check, holding a valid US work-permit, and pre-service hours in ECE.
High integrity, strong and balanced energy and an openness to co-create with others in a positive and fast paced, team oriented environment.
Ability to carry a child and comfort them, and work with teachers as a team, if help is needed in the classroom.
Strong oral and written communication skills, and an ability to maneuver spreadsheets and newsletter/portfolio management and lesson plans.
A strong understanding of early childhood development and some experience with K-Elem learning.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
Food Handler certification (we can support on site with this).
Must carry love and show a passion for teaching and mentoring children.

6.5 weeks paid time off (we follow AISD). We are a year-round program (June/July are our summer camp months), and operate with fall/winter/spring and a 2 week’s summer break.
