Job Description

Position Title: Accounting Specialist

Reports to: Executive Director

Classification: Non-exempt, 20-24 hours/week

Location: Kalamazoo, MI

What You Will Do:
Girls on the Run Greater Kalamazoo is seeking a part-time Accounting Specialist who will support the financial processes of the office and assist the finance team. This individual will create financial transactions such as posting information to accounting journals and software from invoices and cash receipts. This position will play a key role in our budgeting process and generally support other departments within the organization (e.g. programming, marketing, and fund development). Successful individuals in this role are self-directed and have a willingness to take initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities Job descriptions do not typically include every duty or responsibility that a person in the role may be asked to perform. The following is a thoughtful list based on needs.

  • Access financial information to generate reports and answer general questions as well as those related to specific accounts.
  • Complete daily accounting duties such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, journal entries, and reconciling credit card and payroll accounts.
  • Process vendor invoices, inquiries, expense reimbursement and reports.
  • Perform general accounting and reconciliations analysis.
  • Assemble information for external accountant and auditor as requested.
  • Provide exceptional customer service in support of all staff, external partners, and participants.
  • Assist with budget preparation by managing and maintaining annual, worksheets and preparing budget reports and enter budget into accounting software (QuickBooks).
  • Input and process program registration.
  • Order supplies and seek cost efficiencies where possible.
  • Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential.

Qualifications
Required

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • At least two years’ experience in accounting and bookkeeping roles.
  • Proficient with QuickBooks and MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint & Excel).
  • Demonstrate a high degree of organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate discretion and maintains confidentiality.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial data analysis.
  • Excellent and efficient communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong time management skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

Preferred

  • Customer Service experience.
  • Non-profit experience.

Work Environment

  • Collaborative space.
  • Ability to work remotely one day a week after successfully completing 90 days on-boarding.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to push, pull, move, sit, or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to be on the phone for long periods of time.
  • Lift up to 20 pounds as needed if helping with special events.
