Position Summary

The Director of Development will play a crucial role in securing the necessary resources to support the mission of Badgerland Girl Scouts and to achieve the vision set by our Strategic Plan. Reporting to and in partnership with the Chief Marketing Officer, the director will lead and implement a comprehensive fund development strategy, forging key partnerships and cultivating a network of supporters to drive sustainable growth and impact. This role requires a fearless strategic thinker with exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, a passion for empowering girls, and a demonstrated track record of successful fundraising.

The Director of Development will create, execute, and evaluate all philanthropy strategies to ensure a diverse and sustainable revenue portfolio to support the mission. They will develop and effectively manage the organization’s philanthropy to build a consistent brand while strengthening relationships with key stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide professional expertise and direction on all aspects of fund development.

· Lead the Development Team to meet or exceed the organization’s annual fundraising goals.

· Develop and execute fundraising efforts including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, foundation and government grants, corporate sponsorships, and special events. Fundraising efforts will be implemented and developed through a strategic philanthropy plan that outlines clear goals, objectives, and key performance indicators.

· Identify, engage, and cultivate relationships with potential donors including individuals, foundations, and corporations. Build a culture of philanthropy across the organization that encourages staff and volunteers to be advocates for Girl Scouts and demonstrates the impact of philanthropy.

· Oversee systems internally and externally to express appreciation to donors, ensuring their contributions are appropriately recognized.

· Manage the budget for philanthropic activities, allocating resources effectively and tracking expenditures to ensure financial accountability.

· Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of Badgerland’s program offerings and the impact of our mission to inspire donors with clear, compelling, and inspiring messages and collateral.

· Utilize data analytics to measure the impact of philanthropic initiatives and provide regular reports to stakeholders. Stay informed about trends in philanthropy, fundraising techniques, and emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness of the organization’s fundraising efforts.

· Belief in the mission and values of Girl Scouting; be willing to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law and Wisconsin Badgerland Girl Scouts mission, vision, and values.

Education or Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field. At least 5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in fund development with proven results and in-depth of knowledge in major gift fundraising, corporate partnerships and foundation relations.

· Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to share the impact of the Girl Scout mission in a compelling way Ability to translate data to inform fundraising strategies.

· Excellent leadership, management, and decision-making skills.

· High capacity to master and leverage data tracking platforms.

· Highly organized and detail-oriented with a bias towards execution and action.

· Skilled relationship builder with a demonstrated ability to motivate and collaborate effectively across every level of the organization.

· A proactive team player willing to pitch in at all levels while also holding a big-picture, systems-thinking mindset.

· Exceptional written and verbal communicator.

· Strong work ethic with a high degree of curiosity and a learning orientation; someone who leads and operates with a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and discretion.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, experience working with cloud-based platforms, and DonorPerfect (preferred).

· Be or become a registered member of the Girls Scouts of the United States of America; have a working knowledge of Girl Scout philosophy and programming, and be committed to the Girl Scout mission. Prior Girl Scout experience is not required.

Other Requirements

· Must be able to occasionally work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.

· Anticipated time away from the office is 25%.

· Possess a valid driver's License and proof of insurance.

· Must be able to work both in an office setting and independently off-site.

Physical Requirements

· The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to withstand:

a. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

b. Operate office equipment manually.

c. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds at times.
