Title of Position: Food Service Supervisor

Location: Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Center Dietary Department

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt

Union/ Non-Union: Non-Union

Supervisor: Food Service Manager

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Supervises dietary staff, prepares staffing schedules, prepares supply orders and inventories. In consultation with the Food Service Manager, prepares employee evaluations, counseling and disciplinary actions. In-service employees, oversees food service production and sanitation, catering events, menus and diet corrections.

ESSENTIALS DUTIES

• Ensures that proper portions are being served according to menu and ensures special diet modifications are observed according to the menu extensions
• Promptly reports equipment malfunctions
• Completes and displays employee schedules/ monthly menu for clients
• Conducts and monitors orientation for newly hired staff, effectively evaluating, documenting, and communicating performance during probationary period
• When delegating or accepting a task, clarifies the instructions seeking or providing necessary information for successful completion of task
• Ensured that Food Service Manager is properly apprised of current events and issues affecting the department
• Delegate’s tasks, and shares responsibility and authority whenever appropriate. Assists in tasks and discussing new procedures early enough in a manner that enables all staff to plan their work and coordinate with others
• Insures that all written disciplinary documentation is reviewed by Food Service Manager and Human Resources Director prior to discussing with employees and actions are taken in a timely manner

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

• Two (2) years large-quantity cooking experience in an institutional food service setting producing 100 plus meals per day

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATES

REQUIREMENTS

• Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
• Valid California Driver’s license.
• TB clearance.
• Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.
• Fire and Safety Training*.
• First Aid Training Certification*.
• CPR Certification*.
• Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI)**

* Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire.

**Training needs to be completed within 30 days from the date of hire on a designated date provided by on-boarding. Staff need to be certified at the commensurate level for their role to perform their job duties (staff will be taken off the schedule if certification is not achieved).
