Job Summary
With over 700 employees, Behavioral Health Services (BHS) at Denver Health is a large and rapidly expanding department that provides psychiatric care for patients in community, emergency, inpatient, justice, medical, mobile, and outpatient settings. As a non-profit committed to meeting community needs and promoting health equity, Denver Health offers psychiatrists a practice full of meaning and purpose. All physicians at Denver Health have an academic appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. This position provides crisis psychiatric evaluation and care within Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES). The PES is Colorado's only 24/7 team of board-certified psychiatrists and consists of 10 beds staffed by six full-time psychiatrists and a PA. The service also includes a mobile crisis team and provides about 4,000 encounters annually. The service provides critical community needs and is poised for significant growth with upcoming changes in the way behavioral health is regulated and funded in the state. This position typically involves working 3 to 4 shifts per week and, therefore, also offers excellent opportunities for work-life balance.
Essential Functions :

• Provide evidence-based, cost-effective clinical services including assessment, behavioral interventions, consultation, emergency medications, M-1 holds and other involuntary treatments such as seclusion/restraints, somatic treatments, triage and other clinical services as needed. (40%)
• Obtains relevant medical histories, makes appropriate diagnoses, implements and directs effective psychiatric treatments including during high-risk and/or life-threatening conditions including during pregnancy and peri-partum periods, malignant catatonia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, and serotonin syndrome. (20%)
• May provide clinical supervision for trainees and advanced practice providers as assigned. (10%)
• Provide services that are appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patient. (5%)
• Generate accurate and appropriate documentation of services in the medical record and write reports in a timely fashion. (15%)
• Participate and/or support academic efforts in research and in professional writing. (10%)

Education :

• Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medical school. Required

Work Experience :

Licenses :

• MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required and
• BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

• Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
• Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents and behavioral interventions used in patient treatment.
• Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
• Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
• Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
• Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic/racial backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
• Performs in a tactful and professional manner under stressful and emotionally charged circumstances.
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite required.
• Epic experience preferred.
