What Will You Be Doing?

Manages the success of the software development life cycle as it relates to resource management, software development process management and project and quality management. Provides technical leadership and direction and influences the overall success of varied cross-functional teams. As leader of the Software Development team, this manager mentors and grows staff and continuously improves software engineering processes.

Essential Functions

  • Manage software development operations, including release strategy, project planning, development, deployment and maintenance.
  • Direct the execution of multiple concurrent software development projects.
  • Partner with the Project Management Office, Systems Engineering, business leaders and Software Quality Assurance to meet strategic and tactical objectives.
  • Provide suggestions to improve culture; interview candidates as needed and provide technical reviews; provide suggestions for team building activities and training for developers; keep up on newest technologies and trends.
  • Ensure that development teams have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction and resources to deliver products effectively.
  • Monitor individual employees’ performance and ensure that management expectations are established and met.
  • Maintain awareness of web technology standards, best practices and trends, and make recommendations around new implementations.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform goal setting, management of vacation/sick time, schedule coordination, mentoring and related manager HR functions for employee resources.
  • Evaluate current and future leveragability of new functionality in anticipation of changing/evolving business needs and direction.
  • Manage and participate in the support of on-call activities for the Software Development team.
  • Provide guidelines and recommendations on different tools and technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Proven track record of successfully leading software development reams
  • Experience in recruiting and hiring technical engineers
  • 5 to 7 years of web-based application development experience
  • 5 to 7 years of database application development experience
  • 5 to 7 years of application development experience in some or all of the following languages and technologies: C#, ,NET, MVC, HTML, SQL, CSS, JavaScript
  • Project management and team leadership experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of .NET web framework utilizing C# with a good knowledge of Microsoft based application development
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming
  • Familiarity with various design and architectural patterns
  • Must have exceptional communication, organization and time management skills
  • Ability to coach the team to reach their highest potential
  • Self-starter with high energy to meet the needs of a demanding business and IT environment

Typical office environment, adequately heated and cooled

Occasional travel may be required

Generally, not required.

General Direction: The incumbent normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.
