Positions Supervised: None Amount of Travel Required: 90%; Shawnee County
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday
Varied hours between 7 am to 7 pm: Must be able and willing to adjust work schedules based on their clinical case load and the needs of individual clients. Full-time and Part-time available.
Position Summary
The CPST provides goal directed supports and solution focused interventions intended to achieve identified goals or objectives as set forth in the client’s individual treatment plan. CPST is a face-to-face intervention with the client present; however, family or other collaterals may be involved. The majority of CPST contacts must occur in community locations where the person lives, works, attends schools, and/or socializes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide direct services to serious emotional disturbance (SED) children/youth and their families.
- Provide direct services based on the philosophies and principles of the strengths model.
- Complete required trainings.
- Complete required background checks every two years.
- Assists the client and family members or other collaterals to identify strategies or treatment options associated with the client’s mental illness, with the goal of minimizing the negative effects of mental illness symptoms or emotional disturbances or associated environmental stressors which interfere with the client’s daily living, financial management, housing, academic and/or employment progress, personal recovery or resilience, family and/or interpersonal relationships, and community integration.
- Provides individual supportive counseling, solution focused interventions, emotional and behavioral management, and problem behavior analysis with the client with the goal of assisting the client with developing and implementing social, interpersonal, self-care, daily living and independent living skills to restore stability, to support functional gains, and to adapt to community living.
- Participates in and utilization of strengths-based planning and treatments which include assisting the client and family members or other collaterals with identifying strengths and needs, resources, natural supports and developing goals and objectives to utilize personal strength, resources, and natural supports to address functional deficits associated with their mental illness.
- Assist the client with effectively responding to or avoiding identified precursors or triggers that would risk their remaining in a natural community location, including assisting the Client and family members or other collaterals with identifying a potential psychiatric or personal crisis, developing a crisis management plan and/or as appropriate, seeking other supports to restore stability and functioning.
- Assist youth and families with crisis planning and provide crisis intervention services when appropriate.
- Act as an advocate for children/youth and families. This will include assisting the client and family in accessing needed resources.
- Provide coordination of multiple services for youth and families.
- Participation in appropriate meetings for the purpose of case review, case assignments and individual case planning. CPST Providers’ caseloads shall be assigned by appropriate Team Managers and caseload size is based upon the overall clinical needs of persons on the caseload.
- Participate in internal and external networking activities designed to increases the likelihood of meeting the client and family’s identified needs.
- Complete clinical documentation (session notes, etc.) in a timely fashion. CPST Providers are also expected to stay informed of agency developments by reading memorandums and other agency related written communication.
- Respect and demonstrate ability to maintain client confidentiality.
- Act as an ambassador of Family Service and Guidance Center in the community setting. This may include doing public educational and informational presentations.
- Supports and actively promotes the vision and mission of Family Service and Guidance Center and the philosophy of the strengths perspective.
- Other duties as assigned by respective team manager or supervisors.
Qualifications
Education/Licensure:
- BA/BS degree in human service field or 2 years of education/experience in a human service field.
- Must successfully pass the KBI, SRS and all Central Registry background investigations.
- Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, a good driving record and a reliable vehicle are required

CPST’s must have sufficient ambulatory capabilities to work with children and adolescents in the community based setting. Position may require the ability to use physical holding (MAB) with children and adolescents exhibiting out of control behaviors.
