Evergreen Public Schools is Hiring a Medication Administration Assistant (5037) Near Vancouver, WA

MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT

LOCATION: Evergreen High School

REPORTS TO: Building Principal/School Nurse

DEPARTMENT: Elementary/Secondary


Hours / Work Times

1.5 Hours Per Day (7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.)

190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 01/17/2023.

A valid First Aid/CPR card must be submitted to Classified Personnel within 30 days of hire. Only courses with a "hands-on" component taught by a certified instructor are acceptable.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The medication administration staff assistant is responsible for the administration of oral medications to students, under the training, direction, and supervision of the school nurse, and in accordance with District policy and State law. The medication administration staff assistant reports to the building principal for day-to-day supervision.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the general public.
  • Administer oral medications to individual students as directed by the school nurse.
  • Ensure that students take medication(s) as directed, including calling them to the office if necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, log of medications administered, and health related activities and communication.
  • Maintain medications in a clean, locked cupboard to ensure safety. Maintain order and cleanliness of health room and other work areas.
  • Work with the building school nurse to report any side effects, reactions, or unusual behaviors.
  • Work with students and parents to ensure there is enough medication(s) on hand.
  • Perform First Aid/CPR as necessary.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist office staff as time permits by answering the telephone and/or performing light clerical duties.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of one year of office experience, or equivalent training.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions as delegated by the school nurse and/or principal.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain the cooperation of students.
  • Must be able to write legibly.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Must possess organizational skills and the ability to follow through.
  • Must possess or be able to acquire a First Aid/CPR card within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
