FLSA Status: Exempt POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Dean,the Director of Business & Administration is responsible for managing andcontrolling accounting, budgeting, auditing, and other financial or relatedfunctions to ensure the financial integrity of the School of Law. The Directormanages facilities, personnel and operational matters, and supervisesprofessional staff. DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages and controls accounting,budgeting, auditing, and other financial related functions. Oversees annualbudget development. Works with departmental administrators and staff to ensurespending is on track and financial needs are met. Closely monitors finances inBanner, tracks spending and reconciles deficits. Oversight of multipleoperating budgets. Strategic planning, including forecasting for operationaland personnel salary decisions for the School. Advises management regardingfinancial decisions by providing accurate information regarding the financialstatus of individual accounts and interpreting University financial reports.Prepares detailed budget reports on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis;audits current procedures to monitor and improve efficiency of operations.Coordinates all P-card activities.
Works with Human Resources to ensure theschool’s compliance with all required policies, procedures, paperwork anddocumentation for all full-time and part-time faculty, administrators, staff,and students.
Supervises an administrative assistantwho assists with financial and HR matters. Conducts yearly performance reviews.
Ensures that all contracts,documentation, time reporting and payroll is managed in a manner that isconsistent with policies, procedures and priorities
Collaborates with the Office of Researchand Innovation and research faculty to manage grant budgets. Oversees allgrants, contracts and funded projects. Manages and monitors the School’soverhead budget. Monitors gift and endowment funds.
Serves as a liaison to various offices oncampus, which may include: Department ofPlanning and Budget, the Office of the Controller, Human Resources, Payroll,and the Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. Assists facultyand staff with interpretation of University policies and procedures, which mayinclude creating formal training sessions.
Performs related job duties andresponsibilities, as assigned by the Dean.
Completes otherduties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance,or business administration from an accredited institution and a minimum of 5 –8 years of progressively responsible and related budget and personnelmanagement experience within a higher education environment.
Preferred qualifications:
MBA preferred.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limitedto, the following:
Management and supervision practices andtechniques,
GAAP, accounting and budgetary theory,principles, and practices.
State and federal laws and regulations pertainingto departmental budgets and accounting practices; and Human Resources, purchasing, and payroll systems,prefer Ellucian Banner and Chrome River.
Strongleadership, supervisory, analytical, and communication skills.
Strong computerskills, including knowledge of the entire MS Office Suite.
Advanced skillsin the use of MS Excel and the development of spreadsheets and managementreports using graphs and charts.
Effectiveorganizational and administrative skills.
Ability to apply accounting and financial managementprinciples in both a transactional and analytical capacity.
Ability to use ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)systems.
Ability to work independently on complex andconfidential issues related to the day-to-day operations of the School of Law.
Ability to initiate and follow through with workresponsibilities and meet deadlines.
Ability to problem solve and trouble shootsituations, and to implement corrective measures according to Universitypolicies and procedures.
Provides financial recommendations to the Dean.
Ability to collaborate with other centraldepartments on campus.
Ability and willingness to contribute actively tothe mission and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of DuquesneUniversity.
Ability to interpret policy and work withdepartment heads/supervisors to manage their human capital to ensure thatprocedures are in place and policies are adhered to.
Ability to communicate effectively with multipleuniversity constituencies including senior leadership, controller, finance,research/research accounting, office of human resources, etc.
