The Application Specialist position is for an educational technologist with experience in managing assessment software, supporting faculty using a learning management system, coordinating classroom lecture and event recordings and troubleshooting desktop computer issues, and supporting classroom AV equipment at a tier 1 level in classrooms and meeting rooms.
The Application Specialist will operate within the Law Information Technology (Law IT) Department and is responsible for managing, delivering, and maintaining a diverse number of technology services.
The Application Specialist will administer the electronic assessment/exam software (ExamSoft), learning management system (Canvas), and classroom recording system (Mediasite). She/he will work collaboratively within the Law IT Team on tier-one classroom technology support and projects as a team member.
He/she will have the ability to learn and adopt new systems quickly as well as communicate technical information in layman's terms and empower technology knowledge transfer and ownership to faculty, staff, and students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Application Specialist will use his/her understanding of instructional design and experience in the field of educational technology to provide support, consultation, and training for the legal academic community to advance the role of educational technology in legal education and to support the goals of the Duquesne Kline School of Law and the mission of Duquesne University. As an active member of a service-oriented, dynamic, and student-centered team, the Application Specialist will support, maintain and develop Duquesne Kline School of Law courses and community sites in the University Learning Management System (LMS). This team member will create and post instructional content in support of classes and student, faculty, and staff training as directed by the faculty and administration. The Application Specialist will develop instructional materials and conduct training on LMS use and functions in order to support Duquesne Kline School of Law administration goals, including Foundations in Online Teaching and Learning (FOTL) objectives in a hybrid learning environment.
Performs Mediasite administration duties, including scheduling courses for classroom recording using established standards and best practices. This team member will assist faculty in the recording of lectures and content capture using Mosaic and Canvas Studio as part of supporting the overall content recording environment. This role requires the attainment of proficiency in the use of video editing applications (Camtasia) to create, convert and modify content to be used for instructional and communications purposes in Mediasite, LMS, and social media channels.
Administers the electronic assessment platforms (Examsoft and LMS). In collaboration with the Duquesne Kline School of Law Registrar’s Office, this team member will implement the Examsoft features and functions in alignment with industry best practices. This role requires an understanding of Microsoft Office applications to develop and maintain assessment files (practice and actual), reports for proctor locations, exam printouts, and grade sheets for faculty. The application analyst participates as an Exam Team Member and coordinates a team of administrative assistants in support of faculty exam preparation and delivery.
Participates in tier-one support of classroom audio/visual (AV), faculty, and staff equipment. As an integral member of the School of Law information technology team, this role participates in the provision of technology in support of special events, continuing legal education (CLE), continuing judicial education (CJE), and other needs as required. This role serves as a knowledge manager for faculty and staff application issues. The Application Specialist develops technology solutions to support and improve organizational processes and needs. This team member closely monitors customer relationship management (CRM) tickets in the Law IT queue of the TeamDynamix ticketing system.
Adopts, supports, and conducts training on academic technologies critical to the Duquesne Kline School of Law strategic and administrative needs, including web technologies (CMS/Omni), teleconferencing applications (Zoom), attendance monitoring (Qwickly), desktop capture (MyMediasite/Studio/Camtasia), calendar management (Outlook), and other technologies as needed. This team member is vitally important to the training, problem-solving, and support of Hybrid course delivery.
Evening and weekend hours will be required during the final exam period and periodically to assist with classroom support and special events.
Completes other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design or Information Technology from an accredited institution.
3-5 years of experience in the application and implementation of academic technologies.
Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s preferably in information technology (IT), information systems (IS), or computer science (CS) from an accredited institution.
Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology or Instructional Design.
Experience in a higher education environment is preferred but not required.
Preferred candidates will have experience with a combination of different systems, including specialized technical faculty support, desktop computer support, electronic assessment software (ExamSoft) support, Canvas learning management system support (LMS), classroom technologies support (Extron), and website content management systems (Omni). Evening and weekend hours will be required during the final exam period and periodically to assist with classroom support and special events.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Ability to manage and support electronic assessment software (ExamSoft and Canvas quizzes) for faculty and students.
Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to Examplify (ExamSoft).
Supports and manages online course delivery learning management system (Canvas) for faculty and students).
Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Academic Technology, collaborates with the Educational Technology Department (Ed Tech) and other University stakeholders to evaluate, plan and execute new technology systems for Canvas and online learning.
Assists with content input for the school’s website (CMS/Omni website).
Co-maintains Outlook calendars for the School’s classrooms and meeting rooms.
Delivers desk-side, classroom, or video-based technology training to faculty, staff, and students on academic technology and supporting software.
Assists with faculty/staff desktop support and troubleshooting of computer hardware/software and peripheral devices (PC and Mac).
Assists with classroom instructional technology, including maintaining and providing tier 1 troubleshooting on A/V systems and computers.
Assists with maintaining Duquesne Kline School of Law computing lab and library computing facilities.
Manages classroom video recording (Mediasite) scheduling and supports the integration of Mediasite/MyMediasite content into the LMS.
Assists with video conferencing (Zoom) meeting and webinar setup, troubleshooting, and support.
