POSITIONSUMMARY:
The Program Director manages and directs all aspects of the paralegalcertificate program (four terms of instruction) in conformance with the missionof Duquesne University and in accordance with the educational principles andguidelines established by the American Bar Association.
This position is responsible for thewell-being of the Paralegal Institute in every aspect of its operation. Majorfactors include: vigilance with respect rapid changes in the delivery of legalservices in the public and private domains, the changing expectations of theemploying legal community, student's attitudes toward education, andaccompanying funding and employment opportunities. These factors require theability to make judgments and decisions to assure the viability of the programin a competitive online paralegal training environment. The Program Directormust also know and be able to interact with a host of constituents, bothon-campus and the larger community.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the student admission process through student graduation, whichincludes, but is not limited to: reviewing and determining whether to accept anapplication, monitoring student progress, providing career advisement, ensuringa student has met certificate requirements, and student outreach aftergraduation.
Monitors, enforces, and ensurescompliance with American Bar Association Guidelines in all aspects of theparalegal program, which includes, but is not limited to, maintaining a systemfor accurate and efficient reporting, preparing the re-accreditation andinterim reports, maintaining contact with the American Bar Association, andattending trainings regarding accreditation.
Reviews, assesses, and developsprogram curriculum, including planning and seeking input from the AdvisoryBoard.
Recruits and mentors' program adjunctfaculty, which includes all faculty communication, meetings, and review ofadjunct faculty teaching evaluations; and, potentially, teach in the program.
Directs experiential learningopportunities for students through internships.
Monitors and maintains the paralegalbudget, including the preparation of financial reports.
Engages in professional outreach andinterface with the legal community.
Oversees main office equipment andsupplies.
Completes otherduties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degreefrom an accredited institution in a related field.
5 years of legalrelated, legal education or paralegal education.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Paralegal Certificate
Master's degreefrom an accredited institution in a related field.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is notlimited to, the following:
Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed during peakperiods.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite products and thorough knowledge ofspreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
Organize,prioritize and balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
Communicate effectively,both verbally and in writing.
Ability tocollaborate and work effectively with administrators, staff, faculty, and othermembers of the University community.
Initiate andfollow through with work responsibilities and meet deadlines.
