Day to day

The Scrum Master is known as the guardian of the scrum team, someone that resolves impediments and coaches and guides the team on scrum processes. The scrum master provides effective collaboration, facilitation, leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills supporting the agile development framework. In addition, the scrum master promotes inspection, adaptation, and transparency within the context of a scrum team, including iteration metrics and fostering a culture of consistent improvement.
Other major parts of the role are facilitating the scrum ceremonies. This includes making sure the team is working smoothly and every team member has the tools to get their work done efficiently. The scrum master will facilitate daily stand-ups, sprint retrospectives, sprint reviews, and work closely sprint planning and backlog refinement. In addition, the Scrum Master will facilitate scaled agile process, such as ensuring Feature readiness and facilitating team level planning and breakout sessions. The scrum master requires commitment to building a strong collaborative environment with the team and the company.
The product affects multiple business units, large end-user populations, corporate client delivery, applications, and other areas of delivery within the organization. As such, this position is critical to ensuring the appropriate stakeholders are included in the communication plans. The position requires someone with excellent communications skills and can effectively work across disparate teams throughout a diverse business community.

This position requires strong scrum/agile methodology, with additional scaled agile experience. Software application development and overall IT experience is beneficial in understanding and facilitating dependencies, impediments, and delivery.

  • Organize and facilitate scrum ceremonies – daily stand-up, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives, sprint planning, and other meetings as needed
  • Work with Product Owner, cross-functional development team to support business value delivery
  • Track and report on development team metrics such as velocity, risks, sprint burndown, release burndown, cumulative flow, etc. and works to improve the efficiency of the development team
  • Remove and/or escalate impediments as necessary
  • Shield the team from outside distractions and interferences
  • Build relationships with other organizational scrum masters to increase the effectiveness of the application of Scrum in the organization
  • Ensure development team identifies and works towardprint goals
  • Possesses conflict resolution, does conversation by focusing on scrum values of openness, honesty and respect
  • Assist in forecasting velocity and deliverables possible in a sprint and/or program iteration based on evidence and reliable sources.
  • Coach the development team and project stakeholders on agile, scrum, and Scaled Agile (SAFe) practices, processes and tools
  • Recommend process improvements and assist in changes as needed
  • Create an environment that empowers and energizes team members, with a focus on accountability, adaptability, and collaboration.
  • Lead and coach the organization in its Scrum (and/ or SAFe) adoption
  • Foster change that increases the productivity of the Scrum (and/or SAFe) Team
  • Ensure successful hand-over of the project products into Business operations to support the achievement of the business benefits.

Essentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Technical or Business subjects
  • 3-5 years of experience in development or testing in a software development organization
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Scrum Master
  • 2-3 years of experience in scaled agile framework, preferably SAFe
  • CSM Certification
  • SAFe certification a plus
  • Demonstrated Agile coaching and mentoring skills
  • Excellent team player with proven ability to influence
  • Highly adaptable to a changing environment
  • Able to give and receive open, honest feedback and to foster a feedback environment
  • Excellent communication written and verbal
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Presenting to executive level management
  • Knowledge of DevOps
  • Experience within financial services a plus
  • Experience using ADO (Azure DevOps) software a plus
  • Possible Travel (10%)
