Destination Madison is Hiring an Accountant Near Madison, WI

The Accountant is responsible for the proper reporting of detailed transactions that support local events, community programs and ongoing work that drives economic impact through tourism in the Madison area. This position represents an expansion of Destination Madison’s accounting function and will be responsible for accounts receivable/payable, processing payroll and preparing reports to support other departments and organizational goals. Destination Madison operates as a 501(c)6 non-profit, has an $8M annual operating budget and employs about 40 team members.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate across departments to generate invoicing and record receipts to ensure effective operations of partner dues, hotel room block charges, sponsorships, grants, and other DM initiatives
  • Audit and reconcile all expenses according to financial policy, organizational chart of accounts, and budget guidelines
  • Prepare biweekly payroll and related deductions using third-party platform
  • Maintain all necessary accounting records for internal operating controls and statutory requirements
  • Perform account analysis and monthly balance sheet reconciliation
  • Participate in scheduled budget review processes, annual financial audit, and preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Assist with other accounting and operational duties as assigned 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with two years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, and organizational budgets
  • Prior relevant experience working in a non-profit organization is a plus
  • Accounting software system experience required, including familiarity with expense recording platforms. QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel experience preferred

Work Requirements and Job Specifications:

The work environment and job specifications listed below are representative of those that must be met by an employee, with or without reasonable accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Primarily perform work in our downtown Madison office, with flexibility to work remotely and/or adjust schedule based on job duties based on current organizational policies
  • Work with frequent interruption and sit for long periods of time. Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits
