Work Environment:NGL offers a flexible work environment where employees can work fully remote, hybrid or onsite at our Madison, Wis. office. We support virtual working arrangements in certain states outside of WI.

A Day in the Life:

The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for guiding the preparation of complex federal and state income, premium and other business tax returns for NGL and subsidiaries. This position oversees a wide array of policy tax compliance responsibilities, supervises the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory income tax provisions and related tax footnotes. In addition, the Senior Tax Accountant conducts research and drafts memos to articulate analysis and advises senior management on optimal tax treatment of transactions. Additional responsibilities include supporting tax audits and inquiries by providing requested documentation and information.

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Prepare complex federal and state income tax returns for all entities
• Supervise the state and municipal premium tax returns and estimates processes across all companies including accruals and reconciliations for premium and income tax accounts.
• Prepare statutory income tax provision and disclosures to meet financial reporting and statutory compliance deadlines.
• Maintain a strong internal control environment within the tax accounting and reporting function.
• Assist with federal state and local tax authority audits.
• Work with Tax Manger to identify opportunities and makes recommendations to reduce taxes and minimize audit exposure.
• Perform tax research and analysis as required or directed.
• Provide guidance to internal areas of the company in developing and maintaining appropriate procedures related to tax workflows.
• Prepare Federal 945 and perform accounting and reconciliations for policyholder withholding at both state and federal levels.
• Assist in the development of educational materials for information reporting and withholding requirements.
• Coach, train and support team members.
• Stay up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations and communicate relevant updates to the organization.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential to Your Success:

• Knowledge of accounting, tax reporting, GAAP and statutory principles.
• Knowledge of sales and use tax and tax depreciation.
• Solid analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to research tax issues using multiple resources
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Excel, Word, tax software, fixed asset and general ledger software.
• Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure/strict deadlines.
• Overtime expected from December - March.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting Preferred

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred
