As a leader in the Human Resources department, the Human Resources Manager ensures alignment of HR policies and procedures with business objectives and legal standards. Key duties encompass managing the employee lifecycle, including benefits administration & promoting employee well-being, employee relations and performance management and tracking HR metrics to facilitate data-driven decision-making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Benefits Administration
  • Manage and oversee employee benefits programs. Provide support to employees regarding benefits inquiries and issues.
  • Evaluate and recommend benefits to remain competitive in the industry.
  • Partner with the Director of Occupational Health and Safety to oversee worker's compensation claims.
  • Partner with the Belonging division to administer well-being initiatives and programs including mental health, work-life balance, and stress management.
Employee Relations
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee relations matters.
  • Address employee grievances and conflicts and provide resolution support.
  • Guide managers on handling disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Promote open communication and maintain a productive working environment.
  • Monitor employee morale and address concerns proactively.
  • Assess and respond to unemployment claims.
Performance Management
  • Provide training and guidance to managers and employees on performance and behavior expectations.
  • Facilitate the performance management process and provide support to managers.
  • Partner with leaders to monitor employee performance and work with managers on performance improvement plans when necessary.
Leadership and Collaboration
  • Provide support and guidance to HR staff, management, and other staff when complex, specialized and sensitive questions and concerns arise.
  • Partners with the Director of Human Resources to create learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal compliance learning and development opportunities for employees.
Compliance
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices.
  • Develop and review HR processes, policies, and compliance.
  • Ensure all company HR policies are applied consistently.
  • Communicate with staff policy and process changes.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Partners with HR leadership to maintain the integrity of performance and behavior expectations achievement.
HR Metrics and Reporting
  • Establish and monitor HR metrics to assess the effectiveness of HR programs.
  • Effectively utilize the HRIS (Human Resources Information System) and other relevant technology to streamline HR processes and data management.
  • Establish and maintain a continuous improvement HR system review process.
  • Design and implement employee retention strategies.
Other Responsibilities and Duties
  • Other assistance, as designated by the Director of HR, to support the overall goals of the department and organization. Denver Zoo retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.
  • Demonstrate proficiency across the entire range of human resources operations.
  • Acts as a good steward of Denver Zoo's resources.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Relevant work experience and HR certifications may be a substitute.
  • 5-years' experience in HR or related field; supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
  • SHRM, PHR or equivalent HR Certifications.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of human resources understanding, strategies and practices, including compensation, benefits, hiring and employee relations; able to apply these strategies and practices in compliance with employment regulations.
  • Experience with human resources information system (HRIS). Experience with UKG is preferred.
  • Proven computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite are necessary.
  • Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks.
  • Adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good negotiation skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with diplomacy are preferred.
  • Must be an outstanding communicator and considered to be a developer of people who is comfortable motivating, coaching, collaborating, and working with a broad cross section of people in direct and matrixed relationships.
  • Experience applying an equitable analysis to all duties to achieve organizational goals and demonstrate the Denver Zoo's commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism preferred.
Position Conditions
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
  • Schedule Availability: Monday-Friday, occasional weekends as needed.
  • Work Location: In office. On Campus
Compensation
Range for this position is $5,352 to $6,690 (monthly).

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits including medical, dental and vision benefits; life insurance; short term and long-term disability; 403(b) retirement plan; and vacation and sick leave.
