Overview: The Deputy Press Secretary works with the DSCC’s Communications Department to execute some of the most important functions of the department. The Deputy Press Secretary is responsible for writing internal and external communications materials, serves as a media contact and spokesperson, and assists with media monitoring. Ideal candidates have strong writing skills, an ability to multitask, are detail-oriented and ready to work in a fast-paced campaign-style environment.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Supporting the communications team to execute on key priorities, including rapid response efforts and long-term goals.
- Drafting press releases, talking points, memos and other materials. This is a writing intensive position, and the ideal applicant will be able to draft materials quickly, incorporating strategic communications objectives into written materials.
- Assisting in the DSCC’s media relations, including building relationships with members of the press, monitoring incoming requests and serving as a point of contact for some media inquiries.
- Assisting the communications team’s media monitoring operation, including distributing news clips and monitoring social media.
- Maintaining national and state press lists, tracking various projects, and providing administrative support as needed.
- Assisting in the coordination of the communications team’s work across departments.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
This position is based in DC. The Deputy Press Secretary is expected to work out of the DSCC office located on Capitol Hill.
