Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Valid Texas teaching credentials in the area(s) and grade level(s) of assignment
Valid Texas ESL certification
Bachelor’s Degree required Master’s Degree preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills: Strong subject area content knowledge as appropriate to assignment Exceptional communication skills Knowledge and experience in curriculum and instructional strategy implementation Knowledge and experience with rigorous curriculum and instructional strategies Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and research-based best practices Evidence of skills in planning, organization, and collaboration
Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of English Learners students
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of effective professional development practices Knowledge of English Language Learners (ELL) strategies/Sheltered Instruction Passion for increasing student learning Experience using student and campus level data to select, implement and differentiate instructional methods, designed to meet each student’s individual needs Experience: 5 years or more of successful teaching experience as a classroom teacher in the education of English Learners preferred).
Major Campus Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Provide support/mentoring/coaching/training for identified teachers.
2. Help conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify teaching and learning needs, utilizing the information to help organize and implement problem-solving strategies with teachers and their students.
3. Help provide training and coaching as requested by the campus principal in areas that include but are not limited to: effective instruction, differentiation, strategies for English Language Learners, and data-driven instruction.
4. Work with teachers (in-teams or individually) to refine their knowledge and skills by utilizing strategies such as in-class coaching, peer observation, co-teaching and modeling.
5. Facilitate protocols for assessment of student work to drive instructional decisions for the campus.
6. Focused campus visits.
District Level Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist with design and implementation of high-quality building-level professional development.
2. Assist with the design and implementation of lesson planning and common assessments.
3. Assist with integration of TEKS into curriculum focal points.
Other Responsibilities:
Other duties assigned by the Language Support Programs Department that meet the intended purpose of the Grant Funding Source.
Promote collegiality, teamwork, and collaborative decision making with both campus and district staff members. Establish and maintain open communication with both campus and district staff members, in order to successfully advance district initiatives. Provide support to instructional coordinators by assisting with creation, management, and evaluation of exemplar lessons. Provide support to instructional coordinators with management and evaluation of teacher resources. To facilitate own professional growth through: 16. Attendance at instructional specialist meetings and colleague groups. 17. Participate in peer training sessions. 18. Keep abreast of current research and practices.
