JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will manage the day-to-day activities of the finance and accounting department. Key responsibilities encompass the timely production of accurate financial reports, development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures, establishment and oversight of internal controls, and assurance of effective transaction processing to safeguard company assets. The Controller will ensure accounting records are in accordance with accepted accounting principles. Additional duties include providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist management, its governing Board, and other stakeholders in making relevant financial decisions about the Council's current practices and future goals.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets.
• Maintain an accurate general ledger. Review and approve all journal entries. Preserve and maintain a chart of accounts conducive to the needs of the organization. Manage the data entry process for annual budgets.
• Maintain monthly close calendar and ensure that key monthly account reconciliations are being prepared.
• Provide accurate and timely financial reports as established by an annual schedule with the CFO. Oversee the completion of ad-hoc reports and provide analysis and comparison reports as requested.
• Manage the annual audits.
• Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data, and enhance the company's value.
• Respond to CFO as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate his/her financial needs.
• Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
• Provide hands-on mentorship and career planning for existing and future Finance staff. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• CPA certification preferred.
• 8 or more years of hands-on accounting managerial experience.
• Experience supervising staff and leading high priority projects.
• Computer skills required: Excel a must.
• Proficient knowledge of accounting principles and practices, general ledger, and accounts payable systems.
• Effective communication skills and ability to exercise high standards of customer service with vendors and staff at all levels. Ability to oversee multiple responsibilities. Adept at prioritizing and coordinating tasks and performing work within established time limits.
• Ability to perform work with minimum supervision, exercise sound judgment, and determine when to refer issues/problems to supervisor.
