Creative Mindset Consulting is Hiring a Director of Finance Near Washington, DC

The Finance Director will optimize DIW/DIW-REHC’s organizational finance and compliance functions to improve efficiency and ensure the short and long-term sustainability of the organization. This position will be responsible for assessing and evaluating current systems, policies, and infrastructure to ensure that DIW/DIW-REHC is operating with the most efficient business strategies and practices. The Finance Manager will Identify opportunities for improved operational processes across the organization to streamline operations and implement increased standardization across DIW with an eye toward continuous process improvement. The Finance Director is a crucial steward of the organizational values and culture – championing DIW’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to foster a culture of innovation, learning, accountability, and continuous improvement along with a dedicated group of colleagues equally committed to DIW’s shared values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Additional duties may be assigned.

Financial Management

  • Oversee and supervise the accounts payable processes for vendors, lenders, and critical accounts for DIW/DIW-REHC.
  • Oversee all fiscal reporting, ensuring compliance with nonprofit GAAP, and federal and state laws.
  • Process payroll, working with the HR administrators and accounting vendors.
  • Enter all vendor invoices into Bill.com.
  • Coordinate recurring payments to ensure on-time processing.
  • Complete monthly inventory to ensure all invoices have been received and will be paid on time.
  • Develop optimized budgets and financial reports for foundations and major donors, working closely with the fundraising teams.
  • Direct the development and implementation of short-term and long-term fiscal planning including annual budgeting of $1.4 million and multi-year forecasting, ensuring the highest levels of fiscal responsibility.
  • Track and analyze cross programmatic and organizational expenditures spending to ensure departments and projects stay within budget.
  • Serve as the organization’s primary point of contact for audit partners. 
  • Optimize DIW/DIW-REHC finance and accounting policies, financial controls, and compliance systems; implement policies and systems that model best practices in each of these areas.
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting across all DIW/DIW-REHC accounts.

Budgeting and Forecasting 

  • Work with the Executive Team to prepare annual budgets in coordination with department heads.
  • Work with the Executive Team to prepare proposal budgets in support of fundraising activities.
  • Conduct monthly budget reviews and quarterly forecasting updates.
  • Complete spending analysis for grant reviews and funder reports.

Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Implement and monitor internal financial controls to safeguard the organization's assets.
  • Ensure compliance with external laws and internal policies.

Grant Management

  • In conjunction with the Development Director, generate grant agreements, contracts, and amendments.
  • Collaborate closely with DIW’s fundraising (development) team to help ensure that the organizations meet income goals.
  • Develop optimized budgets and financial reports for foundations and major donors, working closely with the fundraising teams.

Education and Experience

  • 5 years of nonprofit finance experience for organizations with revenue of at least 3 million dollars. 
  • Special consideration is given to individuals who have CPA.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing organizational financial activity and systems, including budgeting, multi-year forecasting, modeling, accounting, and reporting.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex nonprofit compliance and risk management issues.
  • A strategic, analytical, and tactical thinker, with a record of success implementingstrategic goals and priorities across an organization.

Work Environment 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. No or limited exposure to physical risk. 

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Dance Institute of Washington employees are required to: 

  • Be Fully Vaccinated or Submit to Weekly COVID-19 Testing - Employees are required to be fully vaccinated within 30 days of their hire date. Full vaccination is defined as at least two weeks after your second shot of a two-shot vaccination course, or at least two weeks after a single vaccination course. Unvaccinated staff must submit to weekly testing.
  • Proof of current TB test.
  • Pass required pre-employment background checks and clearances. 
  • Provide acceptable identification that confirms employment eligibility to work in the United States within the first three days of employment.
